Choose "Start with Questions." You'll first create the questions and then connect them to your document.

A Gavel workflow is a set of questions and logic that you or your clients will answer to generate documents or send data to another destination.

Choose a pre-built workflow

Choose a ready-made workflow that generates common documents or court forms.

Name your workflow something more memorable than this.

Choose your question type. In this case, a text question.

Type in the question title and the variable name. The question title will be seen by the end user. The variable name should be memorable and obvious to you and you should aim not to change variable names.

**Each question has a:**

**Question** **Title,** which is the prompt your users will see when they complete this questionnaire

**Variable Name**, which is the key you'll use to insert this question's answer in your documents and to set logic

**Question Type,** which sets the format of answers this question will accept

You've added a question to your workflow! Let's test it. Click "Run"

This is what this workflow looks like right now. You can try filling it out.

Now that you've learned how to add questions, let's add a document and finish the automation!

Go back to the tab where you're editing your workflow. Click "Document Templates"

On the Document Templates page, you can attach .docx or .pdf documents that you will tag with the questions/variables you created.

You can drag them in or select them from your files.

Click to upload or drag and drop.

Attach as many .docx or PDF files as you like. Other extensions will be rejected.

You can see all the templates you have in Gavel already and choose from those if you want to use a template in multiple workflows.

Click "Attach" once you've selected the document templates you need.

The attached documents will appear here, where you can adjust the name, download the file, reorder the templates, and see a few details on the templates.

These templates are now attached to this workflow, but we still need to connect the variables you created to the relevant spots in the documents.
