Open the PointStudio database, and display the quarry benches and relevant discontinuities.

Show the discontinuities that we will use to build a 3D TSLOPE model.

Type "Belmont Quarry;  data from PointStudio"

Click "PointStudio 2022.1 [belmont_quarry.maptekdb]"  This connects the PointStudio database to TSLOPE, and displays the PointStudio data tree.

We will set up the slope material properties.  Click "Default"

We will transfer the appropriate surfaces from PointStudio.  Click "surfaces"

The topographic surface will be transferred to the TSLOPE Top surfaces menu.

Change the surface colour and transparency.

Next we will transfer the discontinuities from PointStudio to TSLOPE.

Copy the low angle discontinuity to the TSLOPE Basal menu.

Assign the shear zone material properties to the plane.

Add the right bounding discontinuity to Basal surfaces

We now have 4 basal surfaces transferred from PointStudio.  We will combine them into a Composite surface that is bounded by all 4 basal planes.

Select all 4 planes to form the Composite

Select the appropriate Top and Basal surfaces for the 3D Slope Case, Click "OK"

The slope is discretised with vertical columns, the base of each column is located on one of the planes that make up the composite basal surface.

The result is presented;  a factor of safety of 1.11 with the direction of displacement reported.

View the basal surface through the transparent topographic surface.

Show the Material Colour on the basal surface.

We have used a point cloud dataset from a UAV survey of Belmont Quarry to provide the topographic and structural geology data required for a 3D slope stability analysis.  The point cloud data were loaded into PointStudio, a topographic surface was calculated, and discontinuities picked using PointStudio geotechnical procedures. 

TSLOPE was connected to the PointStudio database so that we could access the PointStudio data tree and directly copy the required surfaces across to TSLOPE.
