Tip! Before adding an asbestos item you must first upload the survey document it has come from. To do this follow [this Guide](https://bmis.nz/support/asbestos/asbestos-surveys/).

Select the building you would like to manage the floors of.

Select "Manage Items" from the drop down options.

In the floor where you would like to add the item click "Add Item". In this case, we will add an item to the ground floor of the building.

The first thing you need to add is the name of the item, a link word and its location. In this example, we will add:

- Name: Soffits
- Link word: on
- Location: Building exterior

Tip! The 'link word' is a word to help link the name and location in a way that sounds natural. Examples of common link words include on, above, below, in.

Next we will add the Room. In this case, just "Exterior".

Tip! When adding the room name, a drop-down option will appear with the existing rooms available to select, or if adding a new room, you can simply type the name of the room to create it. To find out more about managing rooms, [click here](https://bmis.nz/support/asbestos/managing-rooms/).

Next click on the 'Survey' drop down and select the corresponding survey for this item.

Next select the 'Assessment Method' for this item. 

Next you can select a file to "Add Item Image"

Click on the floor plan to open the floor plan drawing tool. Once you have drawn the Asbestos Boundary or line on the floor plan click "Add"

You will then be asked if your item contains asbestos. In this case, we will say 'No'. Press next.

Now the sample is added with a 'Negative Risk Rating'.

Alternatively, if your item does contain asbestos, there are some extra steps.

Tip! The asbestos material and priority scores should be shown in the asbestos survey document provided by your surveyor.

Firstly, give each of the material score ratings a value by clicking the associated button. This will sum to give a 'Total Material Score' for your asbestos item. When complete click "Next". 

Next, give ratings on the following:

- Normal occupant activity 
- Likelihood of disturbance
- Human exposure potential 
- Maintenance activity

This combined with the 'Total Material Score' will give a 'Total Priority Score' for your asbestos item.

Once complete click "Submit". This will create the asbestos risk rating for the item.

You will then be asked to add an Action for your asbestos item.  If you would like to click "Yes".

Add an Action Type, Frequency of Action, Action Date and any Comments. Once complete click "Submit".

You will then see a summary of the actions for the Items. To add another Action press the +. To edit a previous action click the pencil. Click the [[X]] to exit the actions. 

Now the sample is added with a 'Very Low' Risk Rating. This is based off the Material and priority scores associated with the item.

To edit an item click here. This process is similar to add a new item, but with the existing information already filled in.

Alert! Removing an item from the asbestos register should be carefully considered, as a removed asbestos item needs to be accompanied by a clearance certificate issued by a worksite registered assessor.

Upload a clearance or re-occupation certificate here to remove the item from the asbestos register.  It is still possible to remove the item without a clearance certificate, by entering an explanation comment about the reason for removal.
