Applying as a New, Graduate, or Returning Student

Navigate to MyHousing:<https://tcnj.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortalX/InitiateLogin/StarNet.Core.AuthProviders.Shibboleth>

Click ***Housing Application*** from the navigation bar.

Click "APPLY" next to the academic year you are looking to live on-campus.

You will be directed to the ***Welcome to The Housing Application*** page. Click "CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page.

The next page will be where you complete your ***Personal Profiles*** questions. These answers will be visible when you look to view roommate information to determine if you will be a good fit.

Once you've answered all the questions, click "SAVE & CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page. 

The next page requests emergency contact and health insurance information. At the top, you will need to include your cell phone number (the best number to reach out to you directly.)

All phone numbers must be written in the XXX-XXX-XXXX format. You will receive an error message and are unable to proceed if the format does not match.

Three emergency contacts are requested for your application. Please keep in mind the number format for their phone numbers.

After emergency contacts, health insurance information is requested.

For any students planning to acquire student insurance (Student Health Insurance Plan), you can "SHIP" under the "Medical Insurance Company." If you have not yet received policy information, you can type "12345678" under the "Policy ID #." **Do not** forget to update this information once you have the policy information.

If there are any specific conditions you would like to indicate, you can do so within the "Medical Conditions" box. Students who are in need of housing accommodations (air-conditioning, singles, no carpet, emotional support animals, etc.) must [affiliate with ARC](//arc.tcnj.edu) to have their housing accommodations accounted for.

Click "SAVE & CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page.

On the ***Confirm Classification*** page, you want to verify the classification you have listed is correct. If this is your first time entering an institution of higher education, you are considered a **first year student** regardless of your credits.

This status is used for assigning your timeslot and determining which buildings and rooms you will be able to select from during room selection or be assigned to from the wait list.

Once you've confirmed your classification is correct, you can click "SAVE & CONTINUE." If you see an issue with your classification, please email [housing@tcnj.edu](mailto:housing@tcnj.edu). 

As a first year student, you are eligible to live in Special Interest Housing. These are optional communities you can opt into by completing a separate application.

For the Academic Year '24-'25, there are 3 different special interest communities that students can apply to be a part of if they so choose:

Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH)
Substance Free Housing
Umoja Multicultural Theme Community

For more information on these communities and direct access to the corresponding application, please select any community of interest from the hyperlink above. Please note that acceptance into the above communities is not guaranteed.

It is not required to select one of these communities. If you are not interested, please select Save and Continue below.

SAVE & CONTINUE

Click on the community you are interested in learning more about. You will be redirected to a separate application for the community. 

Once you complete the separate application, you can click "SUBMIT APPLICATION" to save your responses. If you have longer responses, we recommend you save them in a separate document in case there are issues saving.

If you review a Special Interest Housing application and would like to go back to the Housing Application, you can click on ***Housing Application*** at the top. You will be redirected to select the appropriate term.

Click "SAVE & CONTINUE" once within the application to proceed to the next page.

On the ***Roommate Groups*** page, you have the ability to create a roommate group and request specific individuals if you have an intended roommate. Please note, most first year students **do not** come in with an intended roommate but will find one through the Selection process. Once you are complete with this page, you can click "SAVE & CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page.

On the ***Housing Contract*** page, you will be able to review the complete Housing and Dining contract for the **academic year** (both fall and spring semesters.)

Students under 18 will need to download the contract to provide signatures for themselves and a parent/guardian. Once completed, the signed contract must be uploaded for review by our staff. Anyone with issues submitting the contract can email [housing@tcnj.edu](mailto:housing@tcnj.edu).

Students that are 18 or older can click the "PAWS ID (6 digits):" field to submit their PAWS ID. This will act as the signature on their contract.

Click "SAVE & CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page. 

You will be directed to the ***GradGuard College Renter's Insurance*** page where you can review more information about GradGuard. Click "CONTINUE TO NEXT STEP" to be redirected to GradGuard's page. You can review their renter's rates to determine if you would like to obtain renter's insurance.

The College of New Jersey does not provide personal property insurance, we recommend that students determine if they are covered under their parent’s renter’s/homeowner’s insurance policy or obtain a separate personal property insurance policy to protect their personal property.

On the ***GradGuard*** page, you can "Purchase coverage" or "Decline coverage" to return to the Housing Application.

You will be able to review ***Room Selection Videos*** to prepare for Selection later on. Click "SAVE & CONTINUE" to proceed to the next page.

The ***Housing Application Complete*** page reviews the timeline for the Selection process. You can review the page for dates for timeslots and virtual information sessions.

1. **FYE Selection Timeslot Distribution**: *Thursday, June 20, 2024* - you will receive your Housing Selection Timeslot via your TCNJ email
2. **Virtual Housing Selection Info Session**: *Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.* - Zoom overview of the self-selection process and the available housing inventory.
3. **Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) Session via MyHousing**: *Monday, June 24, 2024 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m*. - via the live chat feature MyHousing to answer any questions you have about the Selection Process.
4. **FYE Housing Selection**: *Thursday, June 27 - Sunday, July 7, 2024*

In order to select for on-campus housing, students need to complete the Housing Application on MyHousing. Depending on your campus population (new student, returning student, CCS student, graduate student, or Community College Partnership student), application instructions are outlined below.

Completing your Housing Application
