This tutorial will breakdown how to pre-authorize a payment.

A pre-authorization can be done to a order as long as the status isn't set to complete

Now under the 'Payment' section, you may notice the pre-authorization button is greyed out

This will occur when no card is linked to the order. To add one click on the '+' sign beside 'no payment method', as shown below

And either add a new card to the order or click on a existing one on the customers account. In this example, I will add a pre-existing card

Click "Apply" to add the card to the order

Now you will be able to click on the "Pre-Authorize" button 

Now under the order balance, you will notice the captured amount is higher then the order total. The reason for that is we add a buffer of 15% of the order total to allow some room for any additional cost that may be added on to the order before it is complete. This way only one transaction will occur when the order is complete. If the order ends up changing and goes over the pre-authorized amount, then a second transaction will occur on the customers account

Note! You can reach out to us if you'd like to change what the buffer of a pre-authorization will be.

Now once you change the order status to 'Complete'

You will see that the buffer has disappeared since it was unused, and the customer has been charged no additional fee!
