Choose the file to operated on , in this case  "color.log"

Right-click the "Root File", any search added directly under the "Root File" will be performed in parallel against the file itself.

Click the "Regex command" text area and type "^red.\*".

One can optionally enter a summary that describes the search step being performed, this will be used to describe the step in the search tree. If no summary is specified LogMatic will use the regex search details themselves.

Click "Apply", this commits any changes to the search tree. If apply isn't clicked the changes will be lost.  To remind users to commit their changes, LogMatic will turn the "Apply" button from green to red when it detects a change.

Right-click "Find line beginning with red" to add the next search step.  This new search will be performed against the results of the previous search and not the file itself, or in other words if will  be performed against the lines beginning with "red" that were found in the "parent" search.

Click the "Regex command" text area and type ".\*(green|yellow)$"

Click the "Summary" area to optionally enter a summary of the search being done.

Type "Find line ending in green or yellow"

Right-click "Find line ending in green or yellow" to add the next search step. This new search will be performed against the previous search step results i.e. against lines starting with red, and ending in green or yellow.

Click the "Regex command" text area and type "blue".

Right-clicking the "Root File" will allow one to add another search against the file itself, or to execute the search tree from that point in the tree hierarchy.

Click "Run".  LogMatic will walk down the tree branches enacting each search, and performing any specified mapping operations.

Once the searches have been performed they will either show as: "green" meaning that they were successful and something was found/done; "blue" meaning the were successful but nothing was found/done or "red" if an issue was encountered with the search or mapping.

Clicking each "search node" in the tree will show the results for that search and any of its associated mapping operations.

Click "Add" to add a new node to perform the last step of the example.

In the "Regex command" area type "^(red).*?(blue).\**"

This capture "red" into the first capture argument "$1", and blue into the second "$2".

Click "$1 - (red)", to select the first capture group.

Right-click "$1 - (red)" in the "Mappings" tree.

Click "String Operations" and then the "Replace" action.

Specify that "red" is to be replaced with "orange" in the "Replace Operation Arguments" dialog, then Click "OK".

Click "Format" and  then "F-Color", this specifies a foreground color to assign to the capture group text.

Right-click "$2 - (blue) in the "Mappings" tree.

Click "String Operations" and then the "Prefix" action.

Type "black " as the parameter to prepend with, then Click "OK".

Click "Apply", to commit the mapping actions.

Right click the new search node, and click "Run".  This will execute this search/mapping step only, using the results previous found.

The complete results can be seen on the right in the results pane.

To save this search/mapping suite, click "File"

To load this search/mapping suite in a future session, click "File".

Select the search suite file, in this case "colordemo"

The search/mapping can be executed, by right clicking and selecting "Run", or added to by simply adding more search nodes.
