Marker Guidance

A step-by-step guide for Markers in the use of the MedLearn Marking dashboard. This includes essential steps in adding a submission class to your Turnitin profile to authrorize your Turnitin access and view student submissions; accessing the MedLearn marking dashboard; and entering your marks and feedback into the dashboard. The steps below must be completed in the correct numbered order.

To access student submissions from within MedLearn, you must first add the Turnitin **submission class** for the assessment(s) that you are marking to your Turnitin profile. This can be done by logging in to Canvas and opening the page which contains the Turnitin submission portal for that particular assessment. This only needs to be done the first time that you are accessing any assessment in that module, and will need to be repeated for each module you're marking.

If you are not required to access a student submission for the assessment(s) that you are marking (i.e. you're marking a student exam, oral presentation, etc.) proceed to Step 2.

Open the Turnitin submission portal page for your assessment(s)

**Contact your programme administrator or teaching fellow for help finding this page if you’re unable to do so.**

Log into MedLearn and click 'My Marking'

Click "View my marking" next to the assessment that you are marking

Click "Log into TurnItIn" - the green button at the top

When logged into Turnitin, check to ensure that your profile is set to 'Instructor' and not 'Student' by checking the menu at the top.

Click on **any** of the listed classes to open a Turnitin class page

Allow the submission class page that you have selected to fully load before closing. This is to ensure that you successfully complete your Turnitin authentication.

Return to MedLearn and Click "Mark student"

Click the "Submission" tab at the top left and allow the submission to open. Alternatively, you can select "Open submission in new window"

Check that the CID on the marking form matches the submission ID on the previous window, which is found next to the 'Mark student' button. If these do not match, notify your programme administrator or teaching fellow.

If the student paper does not load re-visit and complete Steps 1, and Steps 4-7 - ensuring that the web pages have fully loaded before closing.

If you click "Open submission in new window" do not enter any feedback into that window as this may become immediately visible to students. Marks and feedback should be entered into the "Marking Form" only.

Click "Marking Form" at the top to enter your marks and feedback. All marks and feedback entered into the Marking Form are automatically saved

Your marking form may look different to the above, depending upon the criteria used by your programme team.

Click "Instructions for Markers" for any guidance provided by your programme team.

Click "Back to student list" at any time to return to your list of students.
