How to onboard a Meshtastic device to the Crankk network in five steps:

1. install drivers on your computer;
2. flash Crankk firmware to your Meshtastic device;
3. enable Meshtastic device WiFi connection in the online[MESHTASTIC configuration tool](https://client.meshtastic.org/)using CHROME or EDGE browser;
4. import your wallet info into your device with the online[CRANKK configuration tool](http://meshconfig.crankk.io/)using FIREFOX browser.
5. consult your Meshtastic device data in your Crankk User Dashboard.

Prerequisites:

- a computer with the [appropriate drivers](https://meshtastic.org/docs/getting-started/serial-drivers/esp32/) installed;
- Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser;
- also Firefox Browser.
- a supported Meshtastic device. **Any esp32 based device is supported**;
- **also** supported:
  - LILYGO T Beam;
  - Heltec V3;

- Crankk Meshtastic [firmware.](https://github.com/crankkio/firmware/releases)

Install Meshtastic device drivers on your computer

Install the [drivers](https://meshtastic.org/docs/getting-started/serial-drivers/esp32/) on your computer first. **Choose the appropriate driver for your operating system: Windows, Mac or Linux.**

ℹ️ These drivers will allow your computer to interact with the connected Meshtastic device.\
✔️ If connecting a **Heltec V3** device, download the **CP210x** driver.\
✔️ If connecting a **LILYGO T** Beam device, download the **CH1902** driver.

⚠️ Some devices, such as the LILYGO T Beam, may come **without** any firmware flashed. In such cases, attempting to flash the Crankk firmware directly might fail. To avoid this, **flash the stock firmware first**!\
\
✅ Other controllers, like **Heltec V3**, come with pre-flashed firmware. For these\
devices, **proceed to flash the Crankk firmware directly**.\
\
ℹ️ To install the drivers for the Heltec V3 on your computer, right-click the [[Silabser.inf]] file and select Install.

Flash Crankk firmware to your Meshtastic device

Download the latest Crankk firmware for your Meshtastic device [here](https://github.com/crankkio/firmware/releases) \
*(under Assets)*

ℹ️ *Select one of the latest available Alpha 'Firmware' versions from the list of assets.*\
ℹ️ If one version does not work, try the next. Trying again won't harm your device.

ℹ️ **Best use Google CHROME or Microsoft EDGE for this step.**\
\
Plug your Meshtastic device via USB in your computer and navigate to the online Meshtastic [flashing tool.](https://flasher.meshtastic.org/)

**⚠️ Ensure to use a USB cable that supports data-transfer!**

Select your device model from the drop down list.

Click the 'Folder' 📂 button and upload the firmware file you just downloaded from the Crankk Github!

⚠️ **Ensure to select the entire ZIP file! Do NOT unzip the file.**

After clicking 'Flash' a pop-up window will appear. \
Toggle the 'Full Erase and Install' slider **ON**.

Click the 'Erase Flash and Install' button.

After clicking "Flash" a pop-up window will appear prompting you to select the\
COM port connected to your Meshtastic device.

Select the correct COM port and click 'Connect'.

Patiently wait for the flashing tool to finish its job. ⏳

ℹ️ **REBOOT THE DEVICE!**

After the flashing process is complete, you have to REBOOT the device.\
\
👉 You may need to manually press the RST (reset) button if the device does not reboot automatically or says "waiting to download" in the console.

ℹ️ Use [**CHROME**](https://www.google.com/chrome/) browser for this step. \
\
Open<https://client.meshtastic.org/> in your web browser to configure your Meshtastic device WiFi settings.

*Note we are using the **original Meshtastic configuration tool in CHROME** for this step.*

Click '**New device**', select the **Serial** tab and select the device **COM port** in the pop-up. Hit '**connect**'.

Click the device # button to load your device into the configuration tool.

1. Select 'Config' in the left menu;
2. select 'Radio config' in the left menu;
3. select the 'Network' tab on top;
4. toggle 'Enable WiFi radio **ON;**
5. type the name of your Wi-Fi network (SSID)
6. type your WiFi password;
7. **click Save** (located at the top right).

✅ A successful configuration displays this message: "*Config network saved*". \
⏳ **Wait for the device to auto-reboot!**

Notice the "Config network saved" popup in the bottom right corner.\
That's good 👍

**REBOOT THE DEVICE.**

👉 *Now make sure that your device REBOOTS. If it does not reboot automatically, shortly hit the RST (Reset) button to make it reboot.*

📶 After this reboot, your Meshtastic device will now auto-connect to your home WiFi network

ℹ️ Note that your device should automatically reboot after each configuration change. If this is not the case, always manually reboot the device after each step.

**Now find out the Local IP address of your Meshtastic device** in your home router settings or by using a network scanner like [Advanced IP Scanner](https://crankk.wiki/docs/where-to-find-my-gateways-local-ip-address/).

Now open the **Crankk** Meshtastic[configuration](http://meshconfig.crankk.io/)tool in your browser and select "+ New Connection".

*Note we are using the **Crankk configuration tool in Firefox** for this step.*

This time select the HTTP tab and **paste** the copied Local IP address of your Meshtastic device.

Click connect.

2. Select Modules Config\
3. Select the Neighbour info tab\
4. Toggle the 'Neighbour Info Module' **ON**\
5. Click Save (top right corner)

⏳ Wait for the device to auto-reboot.

1\. Go to the Paxcounter tab.\
2. Toggle 'Enable Paxcounter' **ON**\
3. Click Save (top right corner)

⏳ Wait for the device to auto-reboot.

- Refresh your browser;
- log back in;
- double-check if all settings have been correctly saved to your device!

2. Select Radio Config\
3. Select the LoRa tab\
4. Choose your region\
5. Click Save (top right corner)

⏳ Wait for the device to auto-reboot.

In order to onboard your Meshtastic device to your Crankk User Dashboard, you should assign it to a Dashboard wallet that has **no devices assigned to it yet**.

⚠️ Use a different wallet for every device you onboard! **1 device = 1 wallet.**

✔️ provide an **existing** User Dashboard wallet that has no devices assigned to it;

2. Select Module Config\
3. Select the Wallet tab\
4. Enable the 'Wallet' option\
5. Copy-paste your wallet address **WITHOUT the k:**\
6. Copy-paste your wallet's secret key\
5. Click Save (top right corner)

⏳ Wait for the device to auto-reboot.

⚠️ Ensure you have some Kadena (KDA) on **chain 19** of this wallet to pay for transaction fees for blockchain activity of your Meshtastic device before proceeding with the next step!

Consult Meshtastic data in your User Dashboard

ℹ️ Crankk network rewards Meshtastic activity in **CRKK token**!

☑️ If your device is the only one in the area, it will only be sending signals. \
✅ If another device is nearby, yours can pick up its beacon and **gets rewarded** 🔥

**Navigate to the [Meshtastic](https://dashboard.crankk.io/integrations/meshtastic) tab on the left side of your User Dashboard.**

You should be able to see your Meshtastic devices' details and check their send/receive activity, similarly to Crankk gateways.

Troubleshooting steps

**TROUBLESHOOTING 1: Adjusting Browser Security Settings**

If you're using a Chrome-based browser such as Chrome or Edge, you may need to modify your browser's security settings to disable the "Block insecure private network requests" feature. This adjustment allows the browser to communicate with devices on your local network more effectively.

For Edge browser:

1. Open the following URL: edge://flags/

2. In the search bar, type private to quickly locate the relevant setting.

3. Find the option labeled "Block insecure private network requests" and set it to "Disable."

4. Open <http://meshconfig.crankk.io/>

For Chrome browser:

1. Navigate to chrome://flags in your Chrome browser.
2. Use the search function to find the setting by typing "private."
3. Locate "Block insecure private network requests" and set it to "Disable."

**TROUBLESHOOTING 2: COM port not available**

In this case attempt using a different USB port on your PC, change the USB cable, or try using a different browser. USB cables that are intended solely for power charging may not support effective data transfer. It's recommended to use a cable specifically designed for data transfer to ensure optimal connectivity.
