Click "Housing Application" from the navigation bar.

Click "CONTINUE" next to the upcoming academic year.

Tip! 

If you've already clicked through the entire application, you will land on the "Next Steps" page. If you haven't clicked through the application, make sure to do that before Room Selection to maximize your timeslot.

Click "Roommate Groups" from the Application navigation bar.

Click "CREATE GROUP" to start your own roommate group. If you are creating the group, you will be the **Group Leader**.

Create your "Group Name": your roommates can search for the group and join via search.

Create and confirm your password. When roommates are joining, they will need to add the group name and password in order to join.

Click "SAVE GROUP" to finalize your roommate group. 

The "Roommate Groups" page gives you four different options in order to find, request, and join roommate groups.

Roommate groups can be **2-6** or **10** residents depending on where the group is looking to select.

*For the traditional style buildings you can only fill one room at a time with up to two people. For students selecting into the Townhouses, groups of 10 may be formed. Group sizes of 7, 8 or 9 may not be eligible to select.*

The system will only let you create roommate groups with residents of the same gender and cohort classification. If you are receiving an error, one of these criteria do not match. Email [housing@tcnj.edu](mailto:housing@tcnj.edu) for assistance with roommate groups.

If you already have a roommate group you'd like to join, click on "Join Group."

This will direct you to the "Group Join" page where you need to type out the group name and password, the password is case-sensitive. If there is a discrepancy between the information you've inserted and the group information that the system has, you will receive an error message.

If you already know who you'd like to live with and have created a group, you can "Search for Roommates by Details" to search with their information.

You can lookup requested roommates via first name, last name, and / or TCNJ email.

Once you've found your desired roommate, click "ADD TO GROUP." This will send a request notification to your roommate that they can accept.

*If students don't accept the request, they are not officially in the roommate group.*

If you ***don't*** already know who you'd like to live with and would like to search for compatible roommates ***before Room Selection***, you can "Search for Roommates by Profiles".

The "Search by Profiles" allows you to search based on personal profile questions each applicant submits when completing the Housing Application. You can indicate your preferred answers for your potential roommate.

Click "Search" once you've submitted the profile answers you are looking for. You **must** indicate at least one profile answer to yield a result after you click search.

Ways to Request Roommates: By Suggested Roommates

"Suggest Roommates" allows the system to search for potentially compatible roommates based on personal profile answers. If you don't have a roommate and want to go into Selection with a predetermined roommate group, you can search for suggested roommates.

Based on your profile answers, the system will look at other applicants within your gender and cohort classification to suggest potential roommates. You have the ability to message potential roommates within MyHousing.

As Room Selection progresses, the number of available spaces for groups of 3+ residents may start to become limited. We recommend making preparations in case spaces for the entire group are not available during your timeslot. This may mean pairing down the group to create smaller groups. 

A **Group Leader**, has the ability to make someone else the leader, remove roommates, or send a message.

- If you are the group leader but you don't have the earliest timeslot, we recommend you make the roommate with the earliest timeslot the leader. This will allow them to make changes to the group if needed.

Click "MAKE LEADER" next to the roommate you want to make the group leader.

Click "YES" to confirm your group leader change. If you click "NO", you will remain the group leader.

Click "REMOVE ROOMMATE" next to the roommate you would like to remove from the group. If you need to pair down the group to fit into available spaces, we recommend removing the roommates with the earlier timeslots rather than those with the later timeslots. 

Confirm your roommate removal by clicking "YES."

If you have specific roommate request(s) please follow instructions below:

Create a new group: You have roommates with whom you would like to live with and you have been selected as the Group Leader. Maximum group size is 6.

For new First Year students please note any group larger than two can only select into the same suite in Cromwell Hall. For the traditional style buildings you can only fill one room at a time with up to two people.

Step One:

Click "Create Group" below
Enter a unique Group Name and Password
The roommate group has been created, and you are the Group Leader

Step Two:

Give your Group Name and Password to anyone that you wish to join your roommate group or add roommates by clicking on "Search for Roommates by Details"

Add yourself to a group if you know of an existing group of roommate(s) that you would like to join. You must know the correct group name and password (as established by the group leader) in order to join. Maximum group size is 6.

Step One:

Click "Join Group" below
Enter the Group Name and Password
If you do not have the Group Name and Password, you will need to contact the Group Leader for this information (Residential Education and Housing cannot provide it to you - only the Group Leader)
You can now see the other members of the group, as well as the group leader

Step Two:

At any time until you have been placed into a room, you may choose to leave a group by clicking the "Leave This Group" button.

Only students who have a signed housing and dining contract for the Academic Year '24-'25 may be added to a roommate group. You may wish to check this site regularly prior to room selection to check on the status of your roommate group.

If you no longer want to select with a group and would rather self-select on your own, you need to leave the group. Click "Roommate Groups" to view your current roommate group.

Click "LEAVE THIS GROUP" to remove yourself as a roommate.

Click "YES" to confirm your removal and participate as an individual. 

If you're the group leader, you can completely delete the group. This enables roommate group members to create new groups or select as individuals.

Click "DELETE GROUP" to remove the group. 

Click "YES" to confirm the deletion of your roommate group. If you click "NO", the roommate group will remain intact. 

The system forces roommate groups to assign everyone in the group to rooms within the same unit.

- The same unit is defined as the same double room, suite, townhouse, or apartment suite.

You **cannot** assign group members to multiple units. You will receive an error message if you do.

*If there are not enough vacancies within the same unit for your roommate group, you will need to break the group down.*

Save time during your allotted timeslot for room selection by clicking through your Housing Application. You will want to "SAVE & CONTINUE" up to "Lottery Timeslot" to directly navigate to Room Selection during your timeslot.

Students have the ability to form "Roommate Groups" in their Housing Applications. If you have preferred roommates, we highly recommend creating those groups before Room Selection. Waiting until your timeslot to create groups will waste time you could be selecting a space for yourself and your roommate(s).
