Before starting this tutorial, open a chat with at least one document added to it. Other tutorials in this series can show you how to set that up.

In this example, we're starting in the **Aircraft specs** chat created during an earlier tutorial in this series. That chat has two documents.

To analyze just one of the two documents, we want to direct a prompt to only that document.

The "scope" of the prompt—that is, which document(s) the prompt will be sent to—is shown below the **Query your files** box.

In this example, the [[A330_specs.pdf ]]document is the only document in scope.

Imagine that we want to ask a question only about the [[A350_specs.pdf]] document. To do that, we need to change the scope.

Click the **Edit message scope** or **(+)** icon.

Unselect any documents we don't want to include in the scope.

In this example, unselect **A330_specs.pdf** to remove it from the scope.

Select **A350_specs.pdf** to add it the scope.

Now that the scope is set, we can ask analyze the document that's in scope by asking questions

Click the **Query your files** field

Type your prompt for the document in scope

In this example, we'll type [[How long is this airplane?]] and hit [[enter]]

Chat analyzes the document and finds the answer we're looking for

It also tells us something unexpected: the A350 family comprises two different airplanes with different lengths!

To see where chat found the answer in the document—also known as the answer's "provenance"—click the **document title chip** below the answer

Chat does't remember its earlier prompts and answers!

So when asking a follow-up question, you must include important information from any related, previous questions.

Let's try asking a follow-up question about the airplane's length, while failing to provide the context chat needs to answer the question

Click the **Query your files** field again and type [[Convert those to furlongs.]]

Chat doesn't know what the word [[those]] in our question refers to, so it converts *all* the lengths it can find in the document, starting with the airplane's range.

Let's try again, but this time include all the context that chat needs

Type [[Convert this airplane's length into furlongs.]] and hit [[enter]]

Now we get better results
