Navigate to <https://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/> and click 'Free Download' to download the scanning tool.

Wait for the download to complete and open the downloaded Advanced_IP_Scanner install file.

Select your preferred language and click "OK" to initialise the setup wizard.

You can select either to **install** the application so you can use it later on or you can select to **run** the application only this once.

*In this tutorial we choose to only run the application once. We select 'Run' and we click 'Run' to continue.*

Patiently wait for the application to install/launch.

*If Advanced IP scanner does not start automatically after the install process, please launch the application manually.*

⚠️ For next steps, make sure your computer is connected to the same network as your gateway!

**This is a very important step.** Click the '**IP'** button to have the application determine the appropriate range of IP addresses it has to scan for connected devices.

*In this case the range is determined as 192.168.128.1-192.168.129.254. This value might differ for you. That's okay.*

Now click "Scan" to start scanning for all devices connected to your home network within the specified IP range.

The scan soon shows a list of all connected devices. Now look for the device that has the same *MAC address* as your connected gateway. You can usually find your gateway's *MAC address* on a sticker on the bottom or on the inside of the device.

*In this example: MAC address* E4:5F:77:26:E4:26 matches the *MAC address* on the sticker of our Raspberry Pi gateway so the corresponding IP address is the Local IP address of my gateway: [[192.168.129.9]]

Now **right-click** the IP address corresponding to your gateway's *MAC address*, and select copy, IP from the context menu.

✅ There you go Crankkster! You have discovered and copied your gateway's Local IP address.

*Now go on and check your gateway's **Local Dashboard**. You will need your gateway's Local IP for this.*

A Local IP address serves as a unique identifier for every device that is connected to your home network. Hence 'Local'. Local IP addresses look like this: '192.168.1.34' and are automatically assigned to any connected device by your router upon connection. A list of connected devices and their Local IP's can typically be found in your router's User Interface.
