Create "Allowed" Scenes in GoGuardian

An Allowed Website List Scene allows students to access only specific sites when the scene is active. Any website not on the list will be blocked. This is a good option when only a set number of sites are needed for a lesson. Scene rules can be adjusted at any time. #EdTech #GCSStaff

GoGuardian

Navigate to your GoGuardian Dashboard and click "Scenes."

Under the Allowed Websites List, click "Create List."

Give your Scene a name. Additional options: add a description and choose an icon color. Click "Next."

🎯 Pro Tip! Feeling stuck or a little unsure? Look for GoGuardian's tutorial links throughout the site.

NOTE: Scenes can require a little bit of trial and error, because some websites may redirect to a login page or subdomain. Example 1: A Scene requiring a Canvas link will not only require the link to the Canvas class, but also NCEdCloud, possibly Zscaler, and Clever if your students log in that way. Example 2: A Scene that includes Google Slides not only requires the link to the slide deck, but also [accounts.google.com](//accounts.google.com) for account login, and possibly Clever depending on how your students access the material.

Add Websites to Allow

Enter the url (web address) of the first site you want in your list and click "Search." GoGuardian will return a list of results; yours is the one at the top. Click "Add."

Continue to add sites by inputting the web addresses you need and clicking "Search" then "Add." Note: If you enter a url that is blocked by GoGuardian, that will be indicated on the right as it's added to the list.

You have the option of limiting the number of tabs students may have open. When finished, click "Save."

A Note About Wildcards

Wildcards are not recommended in Allowed Scenes; many proxy sites incorporate popular terms in their site names, hoping to be passed through a school's web filter. These are more effectively used in Blocked Scenes.

Edit Your Scene

You can return to your list to edit or delete it at any time. If you have more than 5 Scenes, click "Show More." The most recently created Scene is at the bottom.

Share Your Scene

Note that a shared Scene is a copy of the original; once shared, changes made to your Scene will not be reflected to others (and vice versa).

To share a Scene, click the 3 dots and select "Share."

Enter the email addresses of anyone you'd like to share with and click "Confirm."
