**Inter Wallet Fund Transfer Overview**
The Inter Wallet Fund Transfer feature allows authorized school administrators to move funds between eligible wallets within the SchoolsFocus platform. This feature is particularly useful when funds have been deposited into a wallet that is not the most appropriate destination for the intended purpose or when a school needs to facilitate internal fund reallocations on behalf of parents or guardians.
Inter-wallet transfers help schools manage family and student funds more efficiently without requiring new payments or external refunds.
**Common Use Cases**
***1. Transferring Funds Between Sister Schools***
Many school groups operate multiple schools, such as a Nursery School, Primary School, and Secondary School, all powered by SchoolsFocus.
In some cases, a parent with children enrolled in multiple schools may fund a wallet in one school with the intention of covering fees for all their children across the school group. Since the payment initially resides within the wallet of the funded school, the finance team may need to transfer part of the funds to the family's wallet in their sister-school within the school group so that outstanding invoices of the family wards in the other school can be settled.
For example, a parent may fund a wallet in the Primary School portal while also having children enrolled in the Secondary School. The finance team can use the Inter Wallet Fund Transfer feature to move the appropriate amount to the Secondary School wallet of the same family, allowing invoices of the family in both schools to be cleared.
***2. Facilitating Wallet-to-Wallet Transfers Between Families***
Occasionally, a family may have excess funds available in their wallet and prefer to transfer those funds to another family within the school community rather than request a withdrawal or refund (which is not technically supported).
In such situations, the families may agree on an arrangement outside the SchoolsFocus platform, after which the school finance team can facilitate the transfer of funds from one family wallet to another using the Inter Wallet Fund Transfer feature.
This allows the funds to remain within the school's financial ecosystem while accurately reflecting the agreed ownership of the balance.
***3. Moving Funds from a Student Wallet to a Family Wallet***
SchoolsFocus supports both Student Wallets and Family Wallets.
A Student Wallet is linked to a specific student and can only be used to settle invoices belonging to that student.
A Family Wallet, on the other hand, can be used to settle invoices for multiple students belonging to the same family.
In some cases, a payment may have been made into a Student Wallet when the intention was to make the funds available for all children within the family. To achieve this, the finance team can transfer some or all of the funds from the Student Wallet to the Family Wallet.
Once the funds are in the Family Wallet, they become available for settling invoices across all eligible students associated with that family.
**Important Considerations**
- Inter-wallet transfers should only be performed by authorized personnel.
- Schools should verify and document any transfer requests received from parents or guardians before processing them.
- The destination wallet details should always be confirmed before completing a transfer.
- Schools should maintain appropriate records of any transfers performed on behalf of families. The system also keeps log of all transfers.
