Waive a Learning Assignment
13 steps
Workday
1
**This guide will show Learning Partners how to waive a learning assignment in Workday**. Use this task when a learner no longer needs to complete required learning content and the assignment record needs to be cleared. *Note: Only assignments with an Open status can be waived. After waiving, the learner's enrollment remains active — they will need to be dropped or cancel their own enrollment separately if full removal is needed.*
2
Navigate to the [Workday homepage](https://wd12.myworkday.com/williammary/d/home.htmld).
3
Hover over the "Learning Management" icon in the left sidebar. Click "Learning Admin" in the dropdown.
4
Click "Waive Learning Assignment" under the "Assign/Enroll" section.
5
Use the search fields to locate the assignment. You can search by "Learning Content" using keywords or the course title, by "Learners" by typing in the name of the learner, and by "Learning Organization" -- use any combination to narrow your results.
6
Click "OK" to run the search.
7
The search will display relevant assignments under the "Eligible Assignments" tab.
8
Click the "Waive Reason" field to reveal the "Waive Reason" dropdown. Select the reason that best applies to the situation: - Assignment error - Duplicate assignment - Exemption granted - No longer applicable for role - Previously completed
9
The "Ineligible Assignments" tab will display any assignments that cannot be waived. These are assignments that are currently in progress or have already been completed. If the assignment you are looking for appears here, it cannot be waived.
10
Under the "Eligible Assignments" tab, click the checkbox next to the relevant assignment to select it.
11
Click "OK". A summary of the selected assignment will display for your review, including the learner name, learning content, assigned date, assignment mechanism, and due date.
12
Click "Submit" to complete the waive. The assignment record will be cleared and the required learning obligation will be removed from the learner's "Required for You" list. *Note: Waiving removes the required learning obligation but the learner's enrollment remains active. If the learner needs to be fully removed from the course, their enrollment will also need to be cancelled. See the Cancel Learning Enrollment job aid for steps.* *Additionally, if a waive is completed in error, you can rescind it by searching for the "Manage Learning Assignment Waive" task in the Workday search bar.*
