How to Record a Google Meet Presentation

The best tool we have for recording lessons is often overlooked because it's not usually seen as a recording platform, but rather a communication one. It's Google Meets! When you want to record a lesson, simply start your lesson & don't invite anyone. You can share your screen ("Present Now") as you would with Screencastify or Loom. Once you start sharing a link to "Annotation Tools" pops up. The link to click looks like a wiggly pencil. If you click that you have access to the following.

Google "Google Meets" & click OR navigate to <https://meet.google.com/landing>

Optional: **"Enter a code or nickname"** of the Meet. Click **"Join."**

Depending on what you want to include in the presentation, you can authorize or disable both the video & the audio. I didn't want to see myself during this Scribe so I disabled the camera. lol You choose what works for you during your presentation. You get to decide this prior to recording your presentation.

Click **"Join Now"** to start the Meet.

Of course you can have others join the Meet, but typically when this is used as strictly a recording tool, other people don't tend to join. If this is the case, if you're the only person, click the **X** to close.

Click **"Share screen."** You have the opportunity to choose: - **a tab,** - **window or** - **screen view.** When you cli

A pop-up will appear and then you'll have the opportunity to choose from: - **a tab,** - **window or** - **screen view.** When you click on the source types and then choose what you want to present from the list of options.

To start recording, click the "Skinny Snowman" as indicated by the arrow below. Then click **"Manage recording."**

Before it starts recording, it will ask if you want to include presentation captions and/or start a transcript. Click the desired features & click **"Start Recording."**

**Side Note:** It will notice no one is in your Meet prior to recording. It'll give you a legal warning since hypothetically someone could join after you start, at which point you should let the person know that you're recording.

**Tip!** You can annotate, highlight and mark up the presentation during the recording. Check out the next few slides to learn how.

The item you've chosen to present appears. To annotate the presentation and other call outs, click what looks like a **"wiggly pencil."** The presenter can choose from the following: - Stickers (look like emojis), - A pen, - Disappearing ink, - A text box, - Sticky notes, - Lines & shapes, - Colors, etc.

The **Up and Down Arrows** just to the right of the wiggly pen allow you to **Scroll** during presenting.

The **Diagonal Arrows** just to the right of the wiggly pen allow you to **Zoom** during presenting. Whatever tool is chosen will be indicated where the **"Wiggly Pencil"** first was.

You can click stop presenting at any time. This would allow you to speak to make final remarks. But don't forget, you would have to enable the camera and mic that you disabled earlier.

Click **"Stop recording."** Your video will be archived in your Google Drive. It will have a **"Video"** icon and will be labeled with the unique Meet code & date & time the Meet ended.

Click **"Leave call."**
