Report Review & Resolution Agent Decision

This document outlines the process for reviewing submitted incident reports in the academic integrity process, including guidelines adherence and resolution agent determination.

Once a faculty member submits an incident report, the academic integrity process starts. The first step in the process is to have the submitted incident report reviewed by the Academic Integrity Officer (IO) to determine whether the submitted report complies with the documentation guidelines developed by the Committee for Academic Integrity. Review of the submitted report occurs within two (2) business days of the incident report submission. Once reviewed, the IO will send a letter to the reporting faculty member letting them know if the submitted report meets or does not meet the documentation guidelines.

Report Does Not Meet Reporting Guidelines Expectations

If the submitted incident report does not meet the documentation guidelines, the reporting faculty member will receive a letter from the IO indicating the deficiencies in the submitted report and provide the reporting faculty member with an opportunity to resubmit the report with the missing or updated information. The letter will provide a deadline by which the faculty member must submit the updated report. If you are notified that your incident report requires updates, it will be necessary for the reporting faculty member to resubmit the entire report. Dismissal of an Academic Integrity Report

If the reporting faculty member does not submit an updated incident report to the IO by the deadline listed in the report rejection letter, the IO has the authority to dismiss the report and halt the academic integrity process. Report Meets the Reporting Guidelines Expectations

If the submitted incident report meets the documentation guidelines, the reporting faculty member will receive a letter from the IO indicating that the report has been accepted and is proceeding to the next stage of the academic integrity process. The next stage of the process is a determination about who will serve as the resolution agent for this incident. There are two (2) options for the resolution agent: the first is the reporting faculty member; the other option is for Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) staff to resolve the incident. The determination about who will serve as the resolution agent is made through a conversation between the IO and the Director of SCCS.

The primary resolution agent of academic integrity incidents is the reporting faculty member. However, SCCS may elect to take over resolution of the reported incident under the following conditions: - The reported incident demonstrates indications of a repeat violation by the respondent for the same or similar academic integrity violations (e.g. evidence of prior academic integrity misconduct); - The reported incident demonstrates indications of such severity that a sanction of university suspension or university expulsion is being considered, if the student were to be found responsible for the violation; - The reported incident demonstrates a pattern of misconduct involving repeated violations that may not be the same or similar types of misconduct; - The reported incident demonstrates indications of a possible violation of the Code of Conduct or other university policy, in addition to the possible academic integrity violation.
