Creating a Turnitin Assignment

Turnitin assignments are set up within your Learning Management System (LMS) by creating an assignment link and selecting Turnitin as the plagiarism review tool or external link type. You must then define the assignment basics, including the Max Grade, Title, Instructions, and crucial Start, Due, and Feedback Release Dates. Finally, configure the Optional Settings to select the paper repository, choose sources for comparison, and set Similarity Report preferences.

Click Turnitin New.

From this next screen, provide a title, instructions, and if you scroll down, you can add Scheduling (dates), grading, feedback, and submission settings.

Click **Grading and feedback settings** to add, create, or import a rubric. Click **Attach Rubric.**

Select **Create Rubric** to create or import a rubric. Select **Launch Rubric Manager** to select, edit, import, or export a rubric.

Click "Attach Rubric".

Click "Import Rubric from File" and click next to import a rubric file.

Click "X" to close this section when you are finished adding the rubric file.

Click "Create Rubric".

Set scale title, points, and scale description. Click **Save** at the bottom right of the screen.

Click "Launch Rubric Manager".

Click "Import rubrics" to import older rubric file types.

From this screen you can access your rubrics, institutional rubrics, and Turnitin in rubrics.

Click this "X" to return back to the rubric selection screen.

Scroll down select **Submission settings** to for late submissions, resubmissions, and file type.

Scroll down select Report Settings to expand and select settings. The **Student access to report** controls whether students can access their similarity score and report. A maximum of 3 reports per day can be shared for individual reports if they resubmit. The **Generate similarity report** allows you to choose when the similarity report will be available for students, as well as excluding items from the report.

From here you can set your **Store submissions for comparison** and **Compare submissions** settings. The "Compare submissions against" setting selects the **databases** Turnitin uses to check a student's paper, including past **student papers** (both institutional and global), the **internet**, and **periodicals/journals**. Checking all these options ensures a comprehensive Similarity Report. Click "Create Assignment".
