How to submit a UNSW Research Application

Follow this guide to successfully navigate the UNSW Applicant Portral. It provides a comprehensive walkthrough for entering personal, academic, and project-specific information to finalise your submission.

Navigate to the [UNSW Applicant Portal](https://apply.unsw.edu.au) for a new application whether you are a new applicant or an existing student. Select **Login/Register**. Please do not submit an application until you have secured agreement from a UNSW academic supervisor or, if required, your EOI has been approved.

In this example, we'll log in as a new applicant. Select **No account? Create one**.

Note that the portal also allows you to log in via a Google or Microsoft account. Skip steps 4 to 6 if using this option.

Enter your email address and select **Next**.

Enter the code that was sent to your email account for verification. Then select **Next**.

Enter your password and name details and select **Next**.

Read the UNSW Privacy Notice, select the **Citizenship Status**, and check the box to confirm you have read and understood the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to **continue**.

Select a keyword or program code (if known) to search for your program. Enter Award Type and/or Campus to filter further. Select **Search Now**. Ensure the selected program name has the extension **\_RSCH**.

Matching programs are displayed.

Find the program you want to apply for and select **Apply Now**. Note the program code details **\_INT RSCH** for international and **\_DOM RSCH** for domestic.

Select the **Country of Citizenship** and **Currently Onshore** details, then select **Save**.

Specific information is included for the type of program you have selected. It is important that you read this information to ensure you submit your application correctly. Scrolling through, you will see information such as documents you are required to upload as you progress through the application.

Select **Save & Next**.

Enter your **Personal Details**. Ensure to enter all mandatory fields that are marked by **\*.**

Ensure to upload documentation when requested. You will not be able to submit the application if the documents are missing. These requirements will vary based on previous selections

Enter your **Contact Details**.

Select the Intake. Take special note of the start date and Mode. The filters at the top will narrow down the list.

Select **Save & Next**.

Enter the **Research Details**. Please do not proceed further unless you have secured agreement from a UNSW academic supervisor or, if required, your EOI has been approved.

Enter the **Research Plan** in as much detail as possible. Refer to the HDR Application Process link for help in knowing what to include. Ensure to include any scholarship or sponsorship information if it is relevant.

Upload your Curriculum Vitae. This is mandatory requirement and you will not be able to submit your application without it.

Selecting **Yes** to Previous Research Scholarship provides fields to enter. Ensure you complete all details and upload a copy of the **Prior Scholarship Offer** letter. You will not be able to submit your application if this document is missing.

Enter the **Referee Details**.

Enter your academic qualification details.

Confirm If English is your sole language of instruction.

If English is not your sole language of instruction you will be asked to submit a **Confirmation of Language**. You must also submit your **Official Transcript**. You will not be able to submit your application if these documents are missing.

Enter any previous Postgraduate or Higher Degree by Research qualifications, ensuring to upload any documentation when requested. Select **Save & Next**.

Any errors will be shown here. You can go back to any page at any time and fix any errors prior to submitting the application. You can also save and exit at any point.

Select if English is your first language. If it is not, complete any English test details. Select **Yes** for the Applicant Declaration, and then select **Continue to Submit**.

A summary of the application is displayed prior to submitting. Review the details and select **Submit Application**.

The Application is successfully submitted. An **Applicant Number** and **Application Number** is generated, with a notice that an email has been sent to you.

Select **Return to My Applications** to track your application's progress.
