Updating and Using Categories in Trail Life Connect

This guide covers the usage and management of Categories within Trail Life Connect. Views shown are from the perspective of the Troop Ministry Liaison.

Categories can be created and used to help organize and classify Troop related items, such as Forms and Documents.

By default, Categories can be managed by the Troop Ministry Liaison (TML,) Troopmaster, Committee Chairperson, and Advancement Chair. (Other roles with this ability would include any custom Troop roles where the permission to manage Categories has been granted.)

Updating Categories

Expand "Troop Settings" on the left menu, the click the link to "Update Categories."

The 'Update Categories' page will display any existing Categories that have been created. At a glance, you can also see if those Categories are available to Forms and/or Documents. Search the list by 'Category Title,' and filter the list based on where the Category is available as well as whether to view Active or Inactive Categories. If a Category is no longer relevant: - Click the green check mark under 'Active' to mark as inactive, OR - Click the trash can icon to the far right to delete the Category

The option to create a new Category can be found at the bottom of the page, below the list of current Categories. Enter the title of a new Category in the text box, make any changes to where the category will be available, and click the "Create Category" button to create a new Category.

Category Usage

As an example of Category usage, navigate to the "Manage Documents" page for the Troop and choose to edit an existing document or create a new document. One of the available options for the new document being created below is the field to specify a 'Category.' Select the best option for the document and save changes.

On the page for searching all available Documents (found within your *Backpac*k section in **Basecamp**) you can utilize the 'Category' column filter to further facilitate the location of specific documents, when needed.
