Applicant Experience: Responding to a Request for Changes on Your Application (PermitSF)

This guide shows how to respond to City staff revision requests on your permit, walk through your permit to find and update flagged fields and attachments, and resubmit your permit so corrections are clearly tracked and accepted.

Accessing Request for Changes Details from Email

After you've submitted your permit application. City staff may request changes to specific responses or attachments. If this happens, you will receive an email notification. The email subject will be: Action Required. Click into that email.

The email will give you an overview of what has been flagged to be corrected by City staff. Click "Update Application."

You will be brought to your online PermitSF dashboard. From here you can scroll to find the questions and attachments that need to be updated (these will have a blue highlight) or view them by expanding the "View List of Fields."

When you update a field that has been tagged for revision, a green check and "updated" text will appear. Scroll and continue updating the highlighted answers for revisions.

Scroll down through the form correcting as you need. When you get to the Attachments section, you will need to delete the existing file before you can upload a revised file. To delete, click the garbage can icon,

Then confirm and click "Delete" in the pop up.

After deleting, you can upload a revised file in one of two ways: 1. Drag a file to the blue highlighted section.

2. Click on the highlighted blue section and select a file from your computer. Click upload once you've selected the revised file.

You will know the new file has successfully uploaded when you see the green check and "Updated" text.

When you have updated all answers and files, click "Continue"

If you click "Continue" without revising all of the requested questions or attached files, the system will boot you to the top of your form with this message.

Did you answer all flagged questions correctly? Did you upload revised file attachments where flagged? If so, you're ready to move on. Click "Confirm & Submit." You will then be taken to your submission page for your application.

You can **confirm your revised attachment** by clicking on Attachments on your submission page.

Then click on the tile with the revised file attachment you just uploaded. You can click anywhere on this tile or directly on the "Open file" button.

A pop up will display the version history for this attachment, including the original file and the revised uploaded file. Clicking on either will open the file in a new tab in your browser.

Accessing Your Permit via PermitSF Portal

You can also access permits where City staff has requested changes by logging into your portal and clicking "My Account"

Click "Applications"

Select the permit application you are trying to update. This permit number can be seen in the notification email you received (e.g., FIRE-26-609, BLDG-26-899).

On your permit submission page you'll see a blue bar indicating a City staff member has requested changes. Click "Update Application"
