Stop Works /Close Out a Permit

This guide shows how to properly stop work and fully close out a permit in HammerTech so projects remain accurate and safe. It explains the exact steps to mark a permit as stopped, record safe completion details, obtain signatures, handle still-signed-in workers, and perform any required closeout (including attachments) for specific permit types. Following it prevents unfinished records and ensures compliance.

Dashboard Navigation

Use of the HammerTech Dashboard "Permit Summary" shows permit status on project.

Click "Permits" in the sidebar menu then click "View All"

For an In progress permit where all works have ceased, select the **Stop Works** button.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the permit form then enter the Stop Work Details. Select 'Completed' for the work status and ensure the area has been left in a safe manner. The **Permit Holder** or **Permit Issuer** can sign the permit.

Provide a signature in the signature box.

Click the **Finish Work** button to proceed.

Where workers are still signed in against the permit, the permit Issuer will need to confirm and Check the box *to confirm that listed workers have signed out.*

Click the **Confirm** button in the warning modal.

The permit will then appear as completed in the Permit Register.

Permit Closeout

The Working Near Service and Trenching and Excavation Permit require an additional Close Out step following the Stop Work Step. This is to ensure all additional information and attachments are recorded against the permit.

Click the **Close Out** button.

Scroll to the very bottom of the Permit form and Expand the 'Closeout Details' section.

Attach and required documentation and comments. Provide a signature in the closeout signature box.

Select the **Close Out** button
