Completing A DESSA Rating (DESSA 2 mini & DESSA 2)

Within the Educator Portal, click on the "Ratings" tab on the top navigation menu.

Tip! If you do not see the different tab option, such as the Ratings tab, at the top of your screen, click the hamburger menu in the upper left corner. This will open the navigation menu on the left of your screen, where you can access the ratings tab.

The Ratings tab will include your list of rostered students that you are assigned to rate. A DESSA 2 mini (screener) is populated for each student on your roster, unless otherwise determined by your leadership team. You will complete the ratings to the best of your ability based on what you have observed for each student. **Note the directions for completing a rating (included on each rating form):** *This form describes a number of behaviors seen in some students. Read the statements that follow the phrase: **During the past 4 weeks, how often did the student..**.and click on the button underneath the word that tells how often you saw the behavior. Please answer each question carefully. There are no right or wrong answers. If you wish to change your answer, just click on the button for your new choice. Please do not skip any items.* *A “Never” response can mean that you have not observed the student engaging in that behavior or that the student does not engage in that behavior.*

Complete a rating for each assigned student by answering the questions based on the frequency in which you observed each specific behavior within the last 4 weeks. Answer the questions based on only what you have observed and avoid answering how often students demonstrates a skill in comparison to their peers. Answer all the questions and click "Submit."

A snapshot of the screening results will be available in real time. To continue completing your ratings, click "Next Student."

You do not have to rate students in order. If you want to pick a specific student on your roster to rate, look at the list of students on the left. You can click on the student you'd like to rate next.

Tip! Students' scores will populate in real time as you complete your ratings. Their overall scores will be shown in a circle next to their name. The color indicates whether they in the Strength (green), Typical (blue), or Need for Instruction (red) range.

Students that score in the "Need for Instruction" range on the DESSA 2 mini screener will require additional assessment called the DESSA 2. This is a full assessment used to to identify a student's specific instructional needs.

When you click a student with a red circle and no checkmark, you will be immediately taken to the DESSA 2 assessment for this student. The DESSA 2 is a full assessment of the student's social and emotional competence. It takes about 5 minutes to complete and it is typically completed as a follow-up assessment to the screener. If prompted to complete a full assessment, complete the rating just as you did for the screening. Once you complete each questio, click "Submit"

Like the DESSA2 mini, when you complete the full DESSA 2, the results are available in real time. The full DESSA 2 provides an overall score, as well as individual scores for each competency area measured by the DESSA.
