Canvas Self-Rostering Administrator Guide

This guide provides instructions for Canvas administrators to install the Vista Higher Learning self‑rostering app, configure placements and data sharing, and unlock and modify availability settings so the app appears correctly in Canvas navigation and is ready for use.

In the Canvas **Admin** panel, select the appropriate account, then click **Apps** in the left‑hand navigation

On the Apps page, click the **Manage** tab to view and manage installed and available apps.

Click "Install a New App"

In the **Install Method** dropdown, select **Enter URL**. In the **JSON URL** field, enter: https://www.vhlcentral.com/lti/canvas_config_dd then click **Next**.

Review the auto‑populated app information… then click **Next** to continue.

Confirm that all permissions have auto‑populated correctly and click **Next.**

Set data sharing to All user data and then click **Next**

Review the app placements available for **Vista Higher Learning** (such as **Global Navigation** and **Module Menu**). If you do not need to change where VHLCentral appears, click **Next** to continue. If you want to adjust placements, select or deselect the desired options before clicking **Next**.

Review the **Default target link** for the Vista Higher Learning app. If you do not need to change the link, keep the default value and click **Next** to continue. If you need to update the target link, enter the new URL before clicking **Next**.

Review the final configuration details for the Vista Higher Learning app. If you do not need to change anything, click **Next** to continue.

In the **Tool icon URL** field, enter the image URL provided by marketing for the Vista Higher Learning app icon. After confirming the icon URL, click **Next** to continue. The URL for the tool icon is https://go.vistahigherlearning.com/rs/156-GRO-136/images/VISTA_School_Logo.png?version=0

Click **Install App** to complete the installation of the Vista Higher Learning app in Canvas.

In the **Installing App** pop‑up, click **Copy Client ID**, then share the client ID with Technical Support.

On the Apps Manage page, locate the Vista Higher Learning app and click **Unlock app** to make the app available for availability and exception settings.

Click **Unlock**.

In the **Apps** Manage view, click **Modify availability for Vista Higher Learning** to open the availability settings for the VHLCentral app.

In the **Availability** dropdown, select **Available** so the Vista Higher Learning app can appear in Canvas navigation and placements. After confirming the availability setting, click **Save**.

Return to the **Apps** Manage view and verify that Vista Higher Learning now shows as **Unlocked** and **Available**, confirming the app is ready for use.

Once the app has been unlocked and set to **Available** in Apps, and Technical Support has confirmed that the platform is configured on their end, verify that the app works in a Canvas course. - In a sandbox course (or by asking a teacher to use a live course), go to **Settings** → **Navigation**. - Scroll to the disabled apps list, locate **vhlcentral**, enable it, and click **Save**. - Refresh the course and confirm that **vhlcentral** appears in the left course navigation. - Click the **vhlcentral** link and verify that it opens a VHLCentral page. This confirms that the app is installed, available, and working correctly in Canvas.
