**Opening a Degree Audit**

Navigate to [https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/degree/audits/](https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/degree/audits/)

To open a degree audit that was previously created: Click "Audit Results"

Click the Audit ID hyperlink to view the degree audit. If the Audit ID is not a hyperlink, refresh the page until it is.

**Reading the Top of the Audit**

The top of the degree audit will show you the degree plan, major, minor/certificate, and catalog that the degree audit was run for. This example is for a BA Economics major with the Business Spanish certificate on the 2024-2026 catalog.

The progress bar with a percentage shows how much of the degree you have completed. The colored in bar and the percentage shows you how far along you are. On some audits, you will see a mark that indicates where the university expects you to be based on how long you have been enrolled at UT.

The "Included Courses" tells you which courses are shown on the audit. Audits can include the following courses: - In progress (courses you are currently taking) - Future (courses that you have registered for) - Planned (courses you put into the degree audit planner)

The "Legend" shows you what the symbols mean on an audit.

**Completed, Partially Completed, and Not Completed Requirements**

Rows that have a check mark and are green mean that the requirement is **completed**. This means you have completed this degree requirement.

Rows that have an X and are gray are **partially completed.** This means you have taken some coursework to complete this requirement, but you need to take additional coursework to complete the requirement.

Rows that do not have a check mark or an X and are white are **not completed.** This means you have not taken any coursework to complete this requirement.

**Reading Course Requirements on the Audit**

Each row on the degree audit will show you the course requirement...

...How many hours are needed for the requirement...

...How many hours you have completed towards the requirement...

...How many hours are left to complete the requirement...

...And which course(s) was used towards the requirement.

You can click the "+" symbol to show additional information about the course, such as the course title and which semester you completed the course.

For requirements you have not started yet, you will see "No courses used" at the end of the row. In this example, the student has not completed the CEHET course requirement.

For partially completed requirements, you will see how many hours you have remaining for the requirement. In this example, the student has 6 hours left to complete their certificate.

**Sections of the Degree Audit**

The first section of the audit shows you which classes are **not** counting towards your degree requirements. Common reasons courses are excluded from the audit are: - Q-dropped courses - Repeated courses - Failed courses - Hour limits (ex: only 39 hours of ECO coursework can count for a degree) - PED courses cannot count for COLA degrees

You can click the "+" symbol to show additional information about the course, such as the course title and which semester you were enrolled in the course.

The next section is the "Core Curriculum" section. This section shows you which core requirements you have completed, are in progress, or not started.

Students who came into UT core complete may see rows that are completed, but the check mark box is not shaded in. This means that you are core complete and you do not need to take additional coursework for this requirement.

The next section is "General Education." This section include COLA requirements such as foreign language and the CEHET requirement.

The next section is for the "Major." This section includes calculus and all required ECO courses. You can review the ECO major prerequisites [here](https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/economics/undergraduate-program/degree-requirements/).

You will need to complete 4 upper-division ECO electives. Two of these electives will need to come from [List A or List B](https://utexas.box.com/s/7oftvsrzxaot41mzjvwix7jd53wd7nm8). These electives will have at least an ECO 420K or ECO 420S prerequisite.

The last two upper-division ECO electives can come from [List A, List B, or List C](https://utexas.box.com/s/7oftvsrzxaot41mzjvwix7jd53wd7nm8). List C electives generally only require an ECO 304K or ECO 304L prerequisite.

The next section is for the "Minor / Certificate." BA Econ majors are required to have a minor/certificate declared (unless you are a double major).

The next section is "GPA Totals." Your UT GPA only factors in courses taken at UT Austin, through OnRamps in high school, and UT Extension courses. Students are required to earn a 2.0 GPA or higher to graduate from UT.

The next section is "Credit Hour Totals." All students are required to complete 60 hours in-residence and 120 hours total for degree requirements. Students will need 36-39 upper-division hours depending on their catalog.

The last section is "Courses/hours not counting for specific degree requirements (may count towards total hour requirements)." This section includes courses that are not counting for specific degree requirements, but they **are** counting for your degree hour totals. In this example, RTF 3HRS is not counting for any specific row on the degree audit, but the student is getting the 3 hours of credit towards the total 120 hour requirement.
