Create a Discussion in Blackboard

This guide quickly shows how to create and configure a Blackboard discussion. It highlights key options like making the discussion graded, setting due dates and points, attaching rubrics, aligning goals, and assigning to groups.

Navigate to <https://blackboard.wichita.edu> and then to your course.

There are two locations you can create discussions. Hover over the spot where you would like your discussion to appear, and select "Create."

Alternatively, select "Discussions" from the top menu bar, then select "New Discussion."

Scroll down to Participation and Engagement, and select "Discussion"

Give your discussion a title and add your prompt and any other instructions (including adding video instructions) in the text box. When you are finished, select "Save."

To make this a graded discussion or to access other settings, select the gear icon.

Decide on your settings. To make this a graded discussion, check the box next to "Grade discussion" and determine a due date and time.

Adjust the category, schema, and maximum points, if desired.

Attach a rubric, align with goals, and assign to groups, if desired.

When you are finished, select "Save."
