Create and schedule an announcement in Blackboard

This guide quickly explains how to create, send, or schedule course announcements in Blackboard so you can notify students immediately by email or set a future post.

Navigate to <https://blackboard.wichita.edu> and then to your course

Click "Announcements"

Click the plus sign to add an announcement.

Give your announcement a title

Give your announcement content. Notice that all course recipients are added to the announcement by default. Change this to only certain people if you want, but that would be rare.

If you want to send the announcement via email and post it now, choose "Send an email copy to recipients." This will automatically POST and SEND your announcement right now. (This is a change from earlier versions of this tool.)

If you prefer to schedule your announcement, choose the "Schedule Announcement" option. NOTE: the system cannot be set to schedule and to send and email. It will do one or the other of those actions.

If you choose to schedule your announcement, you must set a date for the announcement to open, and you may set a date for the announcement to close (hide) if you wish, but a closing date is not required.

Choosing to hide the announcement is optional.

Once you have made your choices, click "Post" at the bottom right of the screen.
