How to exclude an item from the Overall Grade

This guide shows how to remove a specific assignment from the Blackboard Ultra overall grade calculation so your grade totals and percentages update correctly. It explains where to find Gradebook settings, how to locate an item (including inside categories), how to use the exclude control, and to save changes.

Navigate to <https://blackboard.wichita.edu> and then to your Blackboard course.

Select "Gradebook"

Select the gear to open Gradebook Settings.

Scroll down and locate "Manage overall grade settings."

If using points to calculate the overall grade, note the total points.

Locate the item you would like to exclude. If it has been assigned a category, it will appear inside one of the category containers. Click on the arrow to open a category. In this case, the category for the item I want to exclude is "Tests."

Locate the item you would like to exclude. Note here that "Syllabus Quiz" is worth 50 points. Click on the exclude symbol to exclude the item from the grade calculation.

Note now the difference in total points.

Don't forget to scroll down and select "Save."
