Set Up Overall Grade Calculation

Navigate to <https://blackboard.wichita.edu> and then to your course.

Click "Gradebook"

Click the "Cog" icon on the right side of the screen.

Scroll down and click the link called "Manage Overall Grade Settings"

Choose whether you would like a points-based, weighted, or formula-based grade calculation. OIR recommends points-based grades if you use extra credit.

Click "Next"

From here, you will see a listing of all the grading "categories" available in Blackboard. You don't need to worry about categories you don't plan to use as Blackboard will ignore them. If you have any categories that have content in them but that you do not want considered in the Overall Grade for your class, click the "no" (circle with a line) icon, and all items in that category will still show in the Gradebook but will not be part of the Overall Grade.

Choose how the Overall Grade will display to students. You can choose Letter, Points, Percentage, or Complete/Incomplete.

Choose whether you are going to show the Overall Grade to students.

Choose whether the Overall Grade is being calculated against all possible points in the class or whether it is showing a "running total" grade that is based on the points a student has earned out of total GRADED points. Typically, this box is checked.

Professors can come back later and un-check this box at the end of the semester to ensure the Overall Grade is considering work that has not been submitted but also has not yet received a 0.

Click "Save" when you are finished. You can always return to this area, so if you need to make changes later, that's fine.
