Insert YouTube Videos in a Brightspace Course Content
This guide provides steps for embedding or linking YouTube videos in Brightspace.

Whenever possible, videos should be embedded in the content, rather than linked to. This allows for the student to see the video on all devices without having to leave their Brightspace course.
Embed Youtube videos in a page (or Activity) - this is the recommended option
You can embed a YouTube video inside a page in a unit of your Content, using the **Insert Stuff** icon in the textbox editor. This option works anywhere there is the Brightspace textbox editor: a new or existing page, announcement, assignments, discussion topic, even an email!

Navigate to Brightspace and click on your course to open it

Click on **Content** in the green navigation bar Select the unit in which you would like to insert YouTube Videos

Click "Create New"

Select Page

Enter all the information needed for that page, including a title.

In the Page Content textbox editor, click on the **insert stuff** icon (the play/pause/record/stop icon) in the toolbar

Scroll down and select **YouTube**

In the Search field, **enter the name of the video** you would like to insert. Click on **Search**

**Select the correct video** and click on **Next**

Click on **Insert**

The video is now embedded in the page. \ Click on **Save and Close** to save your changes.

A page has been created in the unit chosen with the YouTube video embedded. Students will be able to click on the video and watch it from within Brightspace. Note that you can add more than one video in a page!
The same steps can be used to insert a YouTube video in any Brightspace Activities that shows teh textbox Editor and the Insert Stuff icon in the toolbar, for example Announcements, Assignments, Discussion threads, or even in a Classlist Email.
Embed YouTube videos as a separate item in Content

First, open the Youtube video you would like to insert in your course and **copy the URL of the video.**

In your Brightspace Course, click on **Content** in the green navigation bar. Select the **Unit** in which you would like to add the Youtube video.

Click **Create New**

Select **WebLink**

Enter a Title for the link in the Web Link Title, Enter a description if needed.

Paste the YouTube URL in the **External Link** field.**

Click on the **Display & Completion Options** in the right hand side panel.

Select **Embed on the page.** *Please note that emdeb on the page is usually not the prefered option for websites as it often causes issues in Brightspace, but it does work well for Youtube links.*

Click on **Save and Close**

The video is now available as a separate item under the **Content** of your course. Note: This option only allows to add one video per item.
Link to YouTube Videos in a Page (or Activities)

It is possible to add links to YouTube videos in a page in a unit of your course Content, using the **Insert Quicklink** icon in the textbox editor. In this option, students can click on the link in Brightspace and the video will open in a new tab. This option works anywhere there is the Brightspace textbox editor: an HTML page, announcements, assignments, discussion topic threads, or even in an email!

In the Text field, **enter the text that you would like for the clickable link**. \ If nothing is entered, the entire URL will appear as the text, which is not ideal.

Make sure to select Open in **New window** (otherwise clicking on the link will overwrite the rest of the page)

You can repeat the process and add more links to YouTube Videos on the same page. Click on **Save and Close**
