Requesting an Independent Study

Use this guide to create an independent study request for a student. After the request is approved and a CRN is created you can issue a permit in SFASRPO to the student. The student will register themselves.

From the Academic Scheduling module, navigate to requests, click "Create Request"

From the request type drop down menu select Section Change.

Select the term

For the type of change, select Add Section.

From the select a course field, enter the course number (ex: 4800).

If prior sections exist you will see it in the drop down menu.

Enter a reason for the request.

Fill in all information for the course.

Enter the title of the course here.

The schedule type and instructional method must be Independent Study.

Select any attributes.

All independent studies should be in part of term 2.

Enter the enrollment capacity.

All independent studies need a meeting pattern with dates but no days/times.

Type NO in the filter by attribute field, then click "No Days and No Times"

Add the instructor here.

Enter the credit and billing hours (they must be the same).

Enter any Degree Works changes in the notes field.

Change the request status to New.

Select NO for schedule print.

Select No for voice response and self-service available. This will ensure the course is not viewable on the web.

Select Permission of Instructor (IN)

When you have finished, click submit request at the top of the page.
