Health Monitoring

This module focuses on monitoring the health and update status of the systems within Dell AIOps. From the Home Page, you will explore the Systems Needing Updates and Proactive Health Score tiles to perform health checks, stage and orchestrate update, and troubleshoot system health issues.

Proactive Health

In this lesson, we introduce a significant feature in Dell AIOps called Proactive Health. The Proactive Health Score identifies potential risks before they impact the environment and provides recommended remediation of issues based on best practices and risk management. In this lesson, we will look at the Proactive Health Score for a Unity system. We will investigate a capacity and a configuration issue.

System Health -Server Example

On the **Home** page, scroll to the top. The **System Health** tile shows how many systems are in each range of health score. We can see the systems in each range by selecting the health category tab.

Scroll down in the **Poor** category and select the row containing the **Manufacturing_Dev** system.

We see that Capacity is the top health issue affecting this system.\ In this example, the cluster "**Manufacturing_Dev**" is growing at a substantially increasing rate and is predicted to run out of space within 16 hours. Click **"GO TO SYSTEM HEALTH"**

We are now on the **Infrastructure** page with the Health category selected for **Storage devices**. We can use this display to switch between Health, Inventory, Capacity, and Performance views. We can also switch between Storage, Converged, Data Protection, HCI, Networking, and Servers.

Looking at the PowerStore system **Manufacturing_Dev**, we see that there is 1 health issue and it is a 30 point capacity issue resulting in a health score of 70.

Click **"Manufacturing_Dev"**

The **Health** issues section displays the various issues for each category. By default, the category with the highest impact is selected showing the details of the issue.\ In this example we see one 30 point deduction in the Capacity category. One is for a cluster that is growing at a substantially increasing rate and is predicted to run out of space within 16 hours.

Tip! We should note here that the health score is calculated based on only the most critical issue.

Click on the **"-30"** row. Dell AIOps provides helpful remediation suggestions with each health issue to enable easy self-service.

Dell AIOps also maintains a history of the health score. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the **Health Score History** chart. Click **"1 New Issues, 0 Resolved Issues"**.

Selecting a row in the Health Changes section provides details about the issue(s) in the lower half of the page. In this example, selecting the top row with 1 New Issues shows the history of the health issues.

System Health -Connectrix and PowerSwitch Examples

This lesson investigates the Proactive Health Score for a Connectrix and PowerSwitch device.

Click **Home** on the left hand pane. Looking in the **System Health** tile, let's use the filtering capability to view Connectrix and PowerSwitch devices. Select **Networking System** in the pull down menu.

We now see the System Health tile populated with only networking devices. We see there are 3 switches in the Poor category.

Click **"Production PowerSwitch East"** hyperlink.

We are directed to the **Health** tab on the switch details page for the Production PowerSwitch East switch.

Click the **"-40"** row

We again see a recommended resolution for the issue.

Let's look at an example for Connectrix switches. Click **Monitor > Infrastructure** from the left-hand menu.

Click **"Networking"** from the pull-down.

Click **"Production SAN Extension"**

Click the **"-30"** row

We see that Dell AIOps can provide specific commands to help troubleshoot potential issues.

Dell AIOps identifies congestion spreading on Connectrix switches. The detection evaluates various conditions including congested ports, port errors, and port utilization on the local or connected switches. Click **"Performance"** on the left side of the Health Issues screen to view the identified congestion issue.

Dell AIOps identifies congestion spreading scenarios along with the affected local and remote ports. At this time, health point deductions are not being taken for congestion spreading events.

System Health - PowerProtect DD Capacity Issue

In this lesson, we look at the Proactive Health Score for PowerProtect DD systems.

Let's return to the Infrastructure page by selecting **Monitor > Infrastructure** from the left-hand navigation pane.

Click **"Data Protection"** from the pull-down to view the PowerProtect DD systems being monitored by Dell AIOps.

We now see a consolidated view of the Proactive Health Scores across the DD environment.

Click **"dd-lab-01"** link to see the system details page for this DD9800 system.

We are directed to the **Health** tab showing one issue in the Capacity category. We see that a capacity threshold has been exceeded for the cloud tier storage. The issue is assigned a 20 point deduction resulting in a health score of 80.

Click the **"-20"** row

Here we see the remediation details for this DD system.

Scroll down to see the **Health Score History** chart.

Alerts

Here we will walk through the alerting feature in Dell AIOps. We will start by viewing the systems with recent alerts in the Home Page and then drill down into the Alerts page under the Monitor menu. We will see how alerts can be displayed for all systems or filtered down by severity, system and/or time range.

Click **"Home"**

Scroll down to view the **System Alerts** tile. The System Alerts tile shows alerts in the environment that have occurred over the last 24 hours.

Click **"126"** in the Critical category.

The **Alerts** view from under Health menu opens and shows us the 126 alerts with a severity of Critical that occurred over the previous 24 hours.

Let's utilize the Product filter to show only the PowerScale alerts. Click **"PowerScale"**

Tip! Dell AIOps also allows us to refine the results based on Date, System, Product type, Alert Severity, and Acknowledged status.

We see there are two alerts from two different clusters. One relates to a storage pool capacity alert and other to reaching a limit on file descriptors.

Click **"Clear All"**. This will clear the filters and will show all alerts for all systems.

In order to see just those alerts from the **"Market Research"** system, perform the following. Click the **"System or ID"** field. Begin typing **Market** and select **Market Research** from the suggestion.

Click **"Market Research"**

We now see the alerts related to Market Research. Click the **Details** icon to see additional information for the alert.

We can now see details of the alert including the System Name, Serial Number and Message ID, Message, and Description.

Congratulations! You have reached the end of this particular lesson. Click **Close** in the top left corner of this script to return to the demo guide.
