Self-Healing Image Recovery

Self-Healing Image Recovery is a solution that enables you to remotely manage the image recovery preferences for your PCs from a single location. The recovery environment includes diagnostic and troubleshooting tools that can address potential issues before the PC boots to the operating system.

Navigate to "Build & Deploy" in your left navigation and select "Self-Healing Image Recovery".

From your main dashboard in Self-Healing Image Recovery, you have the option to manage services or access admin tools. You can manage your technician preferences at any time. For this experience, let's open "manage services".

**If you are a partner managing assets** on behalf of a customer, you must assign the order to your customer. When you assign orders to your customers, they can set recovery preferences for the managed PCs. Above "Manage Services" you will have the option to "select account" of the customer you wish to manage. You will also see an "Assign Orders" card to manage orders that have not yet been assigned. Select the order that you want to assign and perform one of the following steps: - **Assign to a customer**—assign the order to your customer. - **Assign to myself**—assign the order to yourself. If you selected **Assign to a customer**, you can view the orders, but cannot manage the recovery preferences once they are assigned to the customer. However, if you selected **Assign to myself**, you can view and manage the recovery preferences for your orders.

View the order details for eligible PCs and manage their recovery preferences. You are not able to set preferences for unsupported PCs.

The "Orders" page allows you to view the order details, manage the recovery preferences for your PCs in an order and manually add eligible orders, if required. If you are already using Connected Provisioning, ProDeploy Client Suite or Asset Recovery Services, the orders are automatically displayed on the Orders page. You can manually add the orders if they do not appear below. Let's click "Add Order".

The Orders page displays the orders that are associated with the existing TechDirect account. If you are unable to view your orders, you can add them manually. Insert the appropriate fields and select "Add Order". As this is a simulated experience, it will bring you back to the Order page.

**Before configuring the recovery preferences,** ensure that the following settings are configured in the PC BIOS: - SupportAssist OS Recovery: Disabled - BIOSConnect: Enabled - Dell Auto OS Recovery Threshold: Set to greater than zero For existing PCs, you can update the settings using Dell Command | Configure. For new PC orders, you can preconfigure the settings using the BIOS Settings service.

**Self-Healing Image Recovery** is not available for PCs with an expired warranty.

The Orders page displays the following information: - **Order number**—number that identifies the purchase of PCs in an order. - **Order date**—date on which the order was processed. - **Location**—country or region from where the PCs were ordered. - **Recovery image type**—the recovery type preference set to recover the image, for example, Dell Ready Image. - **PCs purchased**—number of PCs purchased in an order. For example, if 25 PCs were bought in a specific order, PCs purchased is 25. When you expand each order row, additional details are provided: - **Purchased edition**—edition of the Windows operating system installed on the PCs during purchase, for example, Microsoft Windows 10 Professional. - **Purchased version**—version of the Windows operating system installed on the PCs during purchase, for example, 21H2. - **Purchased language**—preferred language that is chosen for the PCs during purchase. - **Recovery edition**—edition of Windows operating system that you prefer to recover. - **Recovery version**—version of the Windows operating system that you prefer to recover. - **Recovery language**—language in which you want to recover the operating system. - **Modified at**—date on which the preferences were last modified. - **Modified by**—name of the person who modified the preferences.

Let's "edit preferences" for the order shown to visualize the above details.

You can edit and update the existing recovery preferences anytime. To edit the preferences, select the order for which you want to edit the recovery preferences and then click **[[Edit preferences]]**. Update the preferences and then click **[[Save preferences]]**. You can also clear and reset the existing recovery preferences. To reset the preferences, select the order for which you want to reset the recovery preferences and click **[[Reset preferences]]**.

Once you save your preferences, you will return to the Orders page and notice a green bar that states your updates were successful.

Let's select "PCs" from the left navigation.

Just like orders, if you do not see the PC listed here, you can manually "add PC". Feel out the details and select "Add PC". You will return to the PCs dashboard.

Let's select the PC in our list and "edit preferences".

Select "Yes" to allow users to use image recovery.

Confirm that you want to enable image recovery on the PCs, and then click "Agree".

Select your OS edition, version and language to which you want to recover the PC.

To prevent users from exiting the Windows initial setup routine or the Out of Box Experience (OOBE) for security reasons, in the **Advanced** section, select **Disable Shift + F10 from OOBE**.

Select "save preferences".

You will get a green bar notification to let you know your preferences were updated successfully. You can edit these preferences at any time.

Click " Image recovery preferences " in the left navigation.

The Image recovery preferences page allows you to search by order or by individual Service Tag and set the recovery preferences. After you set the preferences, you can manage the settings from the Orders or PCs page. Let's select the order in the dropdown menu.

Follow the prompts and select "save preferences". These should look familiar as we've walked through these steps above.

Again, you will see a green bar notification for your successful preference updates. You can always view and edit your orders or PC preferences from the respective dashboard.

Let's go into the "Manage" page.

Once you click "Manage" a drop down will appear. Select "Custom files". You can upload your custom files here. These files will be available in the specified location on your devices after the image recovery.

Dell Ready image is a clean simple image with no added software. As an administrator, you can upload customized files to be included during the image recovery process. Depending on your configuration, once the image is restored, the uploaded custom files are accessible at the specified location on your PC. Let's add a custom file. Select "Add file".

This form allows you to provide details for your custom files and where you want them saved. The file is uploaded to your TechDirect account and is displayed on the Custom files page. You can then apply the custom file when you set the recovery preferences for an order or PC. For this experience, you can simply exit out the frame and return to the "Custom files" page.

You can edit your files at any time. Select the three dots next to "test file 2" and select "edit".

Fill in the appropriate details for your files and acknowledge the disclaimer. For this simulated experience the details do not matter. If you fill out the form, select "save" to return to the Custom files page or simply click "cancel".

When you select "Check eligibility" from the left navigation, you can search if a PC is eligible by a single service tag or multiple. There is a provided template for upload. 100 service tag maximum.
