Update Catalogs

Custom update catalogs allow for remote software updates management and gives you granular control. You can create catalogs based on the product series, fleet, or model number of your PCs. Choose updates based on drivers, BIOS, firmware, application software and utilities, and select updates based on criticality level. You have full customization control of your updates.

Tip! When using custom update catalogs you can customize, test and then deploy the updates. Customers who choose this option for remote software updates tend to have the expertise and personnel to create and test the catalogs prior to deployment.

Tip! Before navigating to the main Updates Catalog tab. Check to ensure "Custom Catalog Updates" is set as your source for PC updates. Otherwise, the tab will be disabled.

**New enhancements:** ● PC updates enhancements: Automatically pauses PC updates initiated from TechDirect when the end user's PC is in an active audio or video call using Teams, Zoom, Avaya, and Skype apps. Updates resume automatically once the call ends. ● PC Update Configuration: Ability to configure the type and category of PC updates that end users can install on their PCs.

For software updates via SupportAssist for Business PCs, there are two options available: - Custom Catalog Updates - Dell Recommended Updates Select the option that best fits your environment. It is not possible to use both simultaneously. Note that in our simulation experience, we have activated both features to enable customers to explore each method. However, in a live environment, you will need to opt for one. **The module covers the Custom Catalog experience.**

Tip! If you have network bandwidth concerns, you can select to download your update locally to your network. From the Set PC update source tab, check the box enabling the updates to be downloaded to a specified network location.

Click "Custom catalog updates" and select the functionalities you want to enable. See tip above.

Enter your specified network location, if desired, for local update download. Click "Save". You have successfully enabled Custom Catalog Updates as your PC Updates Source.

Click "Update catalogs" to open the Update Catalog dashboard.

Click "Create catalog" to begin the catalog creation process.

From the "Select catalog type" drop-down select your desired catalog type.

After selecting "Product series" from the "Select catalog type" drop-down, proceed to choose your desired product type from the "Select family" drop-down menu.

Name your catalog and add description if desired.

Click "Next".

From the "Select update type" drop-down choose the update type(s) you want included in your catalog.

Click "Next".

From the "Select importance" drop-down choose which criticality level of updates you want included in the catalog.

Click "Create" to finish the catalog creation process.

From the Update Catalog dashboard find your newly created catalog and click the arrow to see the catalog status.

When the catalog draft is ready, click on the ellipses and select "edit draft" to review the pre-selected software updates inside of your draft catalog.

If desired, edit the updates in the draft catalog and save your changes. We have pre-selected the checked updates based on the preferences you selected in the catalog creation and our best-known-configuration intelligence.

Tip! Catalog updates allows you to test catalogs before moving to production. This is an optional step.

Select your draft catalog, click on the ellipses and choose "Change to Test" to move catalog status to testing.

You have successfully moved your catalog to test.

Tip! You can choose to deploy a test catalog before moving to production. Click the "Deploy Catalog" button, select your test catalog, choose the sites & groups you wish to test it on, and deploy.

When ready, select your draft catalog, click on the ellipses and choose "Change to Production".

Click "Deploy catalog" to begin the deployment process.

Select your desired catalog from the menu.

From the "Select site & group" drop-down menu, choose which sites and groups you want to deploy the catalog too.

Click "Deploy catalog" to deploy to your desired PCs.

Tip! Updates go out immediately once pushed. If for some reason the targeted systems are offline, it will retry again for up to 30 days.

Update Catalogs

Tip! Before navigating to the main Updates Catalog tab. Check to ensure "Custom Catalog Updates" is set as your source for PC updates. Otherwise, the tab will be disabled.
