Create and Submit an Innovation Challenge

An Innovation Challenge (IC) is a project proposal that leverages the research capabilities, expertise, and resources of a participating higher education institution (HEI) to develop innovative ideas and solutions.

Creating a New Innovation Challenge

Navigate to "Projects" and click "Innovation Challenges."

Click "Create Innovation Challenge."

Click the dropdown to reveal the locations affiliated with your organization's profile.

Select the Organization Location relevant to this specific Innovation Challenge.

Name your Innovation Challenge.

Select the most applicable NAICS code for the Innovation Challenge. NAICS codes affiliated with your organization's profile will be displayed by selecting the dropdown.

Select the most applicable NAICS code for the Innovation Challenge.

Skip Steps 8-9 if the NAICS code matching this Innovation Challenge is already affiliated with your organization's profile.

If none of the NAICS codes currently affiliated with your organization's profile match the needs of this specific Innovation Challenge, select "Not Listed" from the dropdown menu. To be directed to more detailed information on NAICS directly in OCIP, click the globe or new window icons outlined below.

To assign the most relevant NAICS code for this Innovation Challenge, use the dropdowns to specify the appropriate industrial sectors.

Click "Create New Innovation Challenge."

Click "TO DO" to view the mandatory sections of the Innovation Challenge to be completed.

Select the section of the Innovation Challenge Submission process you wish to complete.

Innovation Challenge Overview and Details

Complete the "Briefly summarize your Innovation Challenge. What is the problem you are trying to solve? *" field.

If the Innovation Challenge requires the development of technology, complete steps 14-16. Otherwise, select "No" or "Unsure" and proceed to step 17.

Select "Yes" from the corresponding dropdown.

Estimate the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) for any work completed to date from the dropdown. (Note: You can also select "Unsure" by scrolling to the bottom of the dropdown).

Estimate the Solutions Readiness Level (SRL) for any work completed to date. (Note: you can also select "Unsure" by scrolling to the end of the dropdown).

Complete the following required (\*) Innovation Challenge Details: - What is in scope? - What is out of scope? - List the key deliverables and desired outcomes from this Innovation Challenge

Prior Work Details

Complete the following Prior Work Details: - Indicate if you have already collaborated with a higher education institution (HEI) for this work. If "Yes" please specify the institution using the dropdown and provide the job title and email of your contact at the specified institution in the text field. - Indicate if you have a preferred network of research facilities using the dropdown. - Describe the work completed to date, if applicable.

Tip! At any time during your Innovation Challenge submission, use the "Previous" button to return to the previous section. (Note: All required fields on the current section must be completed to successfully save the current section and return to previous).

Organizational Impact Details

Complete the following Organizational Impact Details: - Describe the importance of resolving this Innovation Challenge* - How will your organization use the deliverables from this work?

Click the calendar icon to identify your "Preferred start date".

Click the calendar icon to identify your "Preferred completion date".

Provide "Total cash budget" for Innovation Challenge.

Provide any in-kind contributions for Innovation Challenge.

Click "Next >"

File Attachments

Use this section to upload and attach any relevant documentation to the Innovation Challenge (if applicable).

Click "Next >"

Provide any additional comments (optional).

Carefully review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of OCIP and check the box to confirm your acceptance. Click "Submit Innovation Challenge."

Click "Return to General Information Page"

Revise Innovation Challenge

OCIP will review your Innovation Challenge and if revisions are needed, you will receive a notification email titled: "OCIP: Innovation Challenge Revisions Needed."

Click this link to make revisions to your Innovation Challenge.

Click "Revise Innovation Challenge"

To make any necessary revisions to the Innovation Challenge, click on the specific section and click "Update."

Once all updates have been made, click "Save & Exit."

Once all revisions have been made, click "Revisions Completed."

Specify the revisions made to the Innovation Challenge.

Click "Submit Revisions."

View Summary Sheet

To view a summary of the Innovation Challenge, click the "View" button,

Select applicable Innovation Challenge.

The summary sheet will provide an overview of your Innovation Challenge.
