Managing Expense Categories

Learn how to efficiently organise your business finances by creating and merging expense categories within the Squeegee platform. This guide provides a straightforward walkthrough for setting up new categories and consolidating existing ones to keep your account records clean.

Creating & Managing Expense Categories

Head to the Expense Categories section. Here you can view all existing expense categories and search to filter them.

On existing expense categories, you can click the three dots to 'Edit' or 'Remove' the category. Once edited, click 'Save'.

To create a new expense category, click the green 'ADD EXPENSE CATEGORY' option.

First, enter the expense category name in the first available field. You can just click 'SAVE' on this as it is, if you don't intend on linking the expense category with Balance.

If you want the category to show in a particular Balance account, you can click the 'Select Balance Account' drop down menu and choose from: - Cost of Sales - Expenditure Non-Operating - Operating Expenditure - *any other manually created Balance accounts*

Next, you can choose the 'Sales Tax Treatment'. You can select from: - Taxable - Zero Rated - Exempt - Non Recoverable - Out of Scope - Reverse Charge

Finally, click the 'Select MTD Expense Category' to choose from the available MTD expense categories.

Finally, click 'SAVE'.

Merging Expense Categories

If you would like to merge two existing expense categories, simply click 'Merge Expense Categories'.

You will be asked to select a target (the expense category to receive the merged data).

Then, you can click the 'Sources' drop down menu to select the expense categories to be transferred to the target.

Finally, click 'SAVE' to action the merge.
