How to Generate an Audio Overview in NotebookLM

Overview

The Audio Overview feature in NotebookLM generates a podcast-style summary based on the documents uploaded into your notebook. This can support review, synthesis, and lecture preparation.


Step 1: Open NotebookLM


Step 2: Open or Create a Notebook

  • Select an existing notebook
    OR

  • Click Create New Notebook


Step 3: Add Your Sources

  • Upload or link documents (PDFs, Google Docs, Slides, pasted text, etc.)

  • Ensure all materials you want summarized are uploaded

💡 Note: Audio Overviews are generated only from the sources in your notebook.


Step 4: Locate the Audio Overview Tool

  • Find the Audio Overview option within the notebook interface (typically in the right-side panel or toolbar)


Step 5: Generate the Audio Overview

  • Click Generate Audio Overview

  • Wait while NotebookLM processes your uploaded materials


Step 6: Play the Audio

  • Click Play to begin listening

  • Use pause, skip, or playback speed controls as needed
