Triton Sensors are engineered for high accuracy, and false alerts are extremely rare. In most cases, when an alert appears to be false, it's due to environmental factors or timing. Follow the steps below to investigate and resolve the issue.
Improper installation is the most common cause of inaccurate readings. Ensure the device is:
Installed at least 30 inches away from HVAC vents
Not placed near open windows or areas with strong airflow
Not located near automatic air fresheners or aerosol dispensers
These factors can introduce particles or airflow that disrupt normal readings and trigger unnecessary alerts.
A common concern is: “When I responded, no one was there.” That doesn’t necessarily mean the alert was false.
Vape particles must first travel through the air to reach the sensor, which can take time—especially in rooms with tall ceilings, poor airflow, or large open spaces.
Once the sensor detects the vape, it can take an additional 15–20 seconds for the alert to be processed and delivered to staff.
It’s possible the individual left the area before staff arrived.
Recommendation: Review available camera footage to verify activity during the alert window. Triton supports integrations with most major video management systems to automatically bookmark the camera footage for faster review.
If the sensor is installed correctly and you still suspect false alerts:
Our team can review device data and adjust the sensitivity.
However, we recommend verifying all environmental factors first, as most alerts are valid and sensitivity changes should be approached cautiously.
