The official Course Outline of Record (COR) serves as a reference document throughout the college community and forms the basis for a contract between the student, instructor, and institution. It defines the fundamental, required components of the course that the institution expects the faculty to teach and the student is guaranteed to receive. Each college instructor is required to cover all topics listed in accordance with the course objectives, with the freedom to emphasize some topics over others in the classroom. These elements, as well as the assignments and textbooks, are agreed-upon by the discipline faculty from each department at each college as part of the curriculum approval process. On an even broader scale, course outlines are used in accreditation reviews and serve as the basis for transfer articulation agreements with four-year institutions such as the CSU's and UC's. Official CORs are available through the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) colleges (City, Mesa, and Miramar) [curriculum management system](https://sdccd.curriqunet.com/). The college does not provide copies of “syllabus / syllabi” as the Course Outline is the official record of the course. The entirety of the information provided on the COR is much more detailed than that found on a course syllabus and reflects the way in which each course was taught at the time the student took the course.
