Here is an overview of answers to frequently asked questions about CE requirements, logging /your continuing education hours, and the Litmos platform. If you're looking for step-by-step guides to navigating Litmos, please find them in our guide here.
A: CASA/LA volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education per year.
A: All CASAs nationally are required to complete this annual CE requirement. To ensure our organization and volunteers remain in compliance with National CASA standards, it is essential that we complete and track CE. Additionally, it is essential to continue to expand our knowledge to provide the best advocacy to our young people. Whether this means learning more about relevant resources or developing better tools to take care of ourselves and check our biases while we advocate, CE is a vital part of the CASA role.
A: Yes. All of our volunteers share the same CE requirements
A: Yes. You are expected to keep up with your CE requirements while you are on leave from volunteering with us. If this is not feasible for you, please work with your advocate supervisor to make a plan to catch up on your hours upon your return to active volunteering.
A: There are many options for completing your CE hours. CASA/LA provides approximately three in-service trainings each month, all of which can count toward your CE hours. The majority of these trainings are recorded and made available on Litmos. You are also welcome to complete your CE hours outside of CASA/LA in any of the following media, as long as you are able to articulate what you learned and how it will help your advocacy:
Article in a magazine, journal, or newspaper
Book (30 minutes for each 50 pages; maximum of three hours per book)
Audiobook (three hours maximum per book)
Film or TV program
Podcast
Webinar or other online presentation (LIVE)
Webinar or other online presentation (RECORDED)
Conference/ workshop/ seminar (length of time for relevant session)
College course
Other (pending approval from manager of volunteer engagement)

A: Completing 12 hours of CE each year is a requirement of the CASA volunteer role. Please discuss the status of your CE completion with your advocate supervisor and work with them to make a plan for completing your CE requirement.
A: On average, volunteers are required to complete one hour of continuing education each month. Thus, however many months are left in the calendar year after your CASA graduation is the number of hours of CE that you must complete that year. For example, if you graduate from pre-service training in August, you must complete four hours of continuing education that year (one hour each for September, October, November, and December).
A: You should be able to view all of your completed CE hours in the "Achievements" section of Litmos under the "Points" tab. View this guide for step-by-step instructions for viewing your completed CE hours.
A: If you attend a live CASA/LA in-service training, the manager of volunteer engagement will log your hours for you in Litmos. You should be able to see the new points in the "Achievements" section of Litmos within two weeks of the training date.
A: If you view a recording of a CASA/LA in-service training on Litmos, the hours will automatically be logged by Litmos. You can verify that your hours were logged by viewing the new points in the "Achievements" section of Litmos immediately. If they do not appear there, please try logging out and logging back into Litmos. If the new points still don't show up, please contact Aimee Borrayo, the CASA/LA manager of volunteer engagement, at [email protected].
A: Volunteers are responsible for entering information about any CE that they complete outside of CASA/LA. Enter these hours in the Litmos "Independent Continuing Education" learning path. View this guide for step-by-step instructions for logging your independent CE hours.
