This SOP outlines the procedures for coding early childhood programs in PowerSchool, specifically for programs in South Carolina, including the CERDEP program and the Read to Succeed initiative.
To ensure accurate data entry and reporting for early childhood education programs, allowing for effective tracking of student progress and compliance with state regulations.
1. Access PowerSchool
- Log in to the PowerSchool system with your assigned credentials.
2. Navigate to the Student Information Section
- Locate the "Students" tab on the main dashboard.
3. Select the Appropriate Student
- Use the search function to find the student requiring coding.
4. Enter Early Childhood Program Information:
- Click on the "Enrollment" tab within the student’s profile.
- Input the following details:
- Program type (e.g., Pre-K, Kindergarten)
- Enrollment status (Active, Inactive)
- Start date of enrollment - End date of enrollment (if applicable)
To track and report data specific to the Child Early Reading Development and Education Program (CERDEP) for compliance and funding purposes.
1. Identify CERDEP Eligibility - Verify the student meets the eligibility criteria for CERDEP.
2. Input CERDEP Specific Data
- In the "Programs" section of the student’s profile, select "CERDEP" from the dropdown menu.
- Enter the following information:
- Enrollment date in CERDEP - Program location (school)
- Funding source (if applicable)
"Student Profile"> "Courses and Programs" > "Student Programs"
Please ensure the following field is completed, as it is required for CERDEP coding and is necessary for the student data to be fully transmitted to the State Department.

Coding CERDEP StudentsTo monitor student participation and progress in the Read to Succeed initiative aimed at improving literacy in early childhood.
1. Determine Read to Succeed Eligibility - Check if the student is enrolled in a Read to Succeed affiliated program.
2. Enter Read to Succeed Data - Navigate to the "Programs" section within the student’s profile. - Select "Read to Succeed" from the program options. - Fill in the following fields: - Start date of participation - Literacy assessment scores (if available) - Participation status (Active, Completed)
- Regularly verify the accuracy of coding to ensure compliance with state reporting requirements.
- Conduct audits of student data every semester to address any discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit reports as required by the South Carolina Department of Education, ensuring all coded data is included.
Adhering to the procedures outlined in this SOP will ensure effective management of early childhood coding in PowerSchool for the CERDEP and Read to Succeed programs. Regular training and updates should be provided to all staff involved in data entry to maintain accuracy and compliance.
