Encrypting Messages in Microsoft Outlook (with explainer)

Learn how to encrypt single messages in both new and old Outlook, and how to encrypt all outgoing messages.

In the Scribes below, you will see multiple encryption options. The two main ones you'll need to worry about are:

Encrypt: This option specifically encrypts your email and will require a password from the recipient when opening it.

Do Not Forward: This option not only encrypts your email but also prevents the recipient from forwarding it.

The other two — Confidential and Highly Confidential — are custom options set up by an organization that prohibit those from outside the organization from viewing that message.
