1.5b Add Account Numbers to the Chart of Accounts

    • 0 step
    Start in the Sample company.
To complete this exercise, you must be in the Sample company. From your QBOA account, click on the Gear icon on the top right corner of the screen, then select Sample company.
Note that you will be logged out of your current account. If you are sure, click "Continue" to confirm.
IMPORTANT: The Sample company is VERY FINICKY when trying to add account numbers. Make sure you start with a fresh copy of the Sample company--i.e., log out and then log back in--before starting this exercise.
Now let's get started with the exercise. Let's get started setting up account numbers in the Chart of accounts. First we have to turn on the option in our settings.
    Click the "Gear icon".
    Click "Account and settings".
    Click "Advanced".
In the Chart of accounts section, click the "pencil icon".
Click the "toggle" on (it will turn green) across from Enable account numbers.
When we select Show account numbers, it will show the numbers in your Chart of accounts.
Click the "checkbox" next to the Show account numbers field.
    Click "Save".
    Click "Done".
Let's see how that looks on the Chart of accounts.
There are other ways to get to the Chart of accounts but if you use them immediately after turning on the account numbers, sometimes the account numbers field won't show up. Hint: if the account number field is not immediately showing up on the Chart of accounts page, click on "Dashboards" from the left navigation bar, and then go back to the Chart of accounts page.
    Click the "Gear icon".
    Click "Chart of accounts".
Now you can see that there is a Number field where you will assign the account numbers.
There are two ways to assign the numbers to the accounts. Lets start with how to edit the accounts individually.
