Navigate to your Jira site.

Click "Apps"

Click "» Templating.app «"

Choose a template where to want to use variables.

Click here.

Click "Form & Variables"

Click "Add variable"

Choose one the different input types.

In this example we'll use "New Text input"

Click this button to see further settings for the variable.

Click the "Default value" field if your want to preset a value.

Click "Save" as soon as you are finished.

We will now use the variable. Click "Issues"

Choose an issue.

In this example we will use the variable for the labels field.

Click "Label"

Click "Back to all templates"

To test the feature click "Create issues"

You will now see a modal popping up before issue creation.
