Adding New Exposure Places

This guide is essential for anyone involved in tracking infectious disease exposures, providing a step-by-step process for accurately adding exposure locations in EpiTrax. By following these instructions, users can ensure they document potential exposure sites effectively, which is crucial for public health safety. The following steps outline how to add an exposure place to a record. Exposure places are locations where the case-patient reported being present during their infectious period. Identifying these locations helps determine where potential exposure to an infectious agent may have occurred and assists in identifying contacts to help limit the spread of disease.

To start, click on the [[Investigation]] tab.

Scroll down to the **Exposures** section on the investigation tab.

**Tip!** Exposure locations should be added to any location that the case attended during their infectious period and had the potential to expose others. Use the dates displayed at the top of the investigation tab to determine dates of exposure for that disease.

To add a new exposure location, click on [[+ Exposure]] to the right in the exposure section.

Type in the exposure location name under exposure place and press [[enter]] to search to determine if this exposure place already exists in EpiTrax.

If any exposure places match your search, click on the correct exposure place by confirmed address details. This will add the exposure place to this record.

If an exposure place is **not found**, a message will display: *Exposure place not found.* You will need to add the exposure place to EpiTrax before you can add the exposure details to the record.

To add an exposure place to EpiTrax, click [[+ New]] .

The *Add Exposure Place* window will display. Enter all the details for the exposure place.

Once all details have been entered, click [[Save Exposure Place]].

Click on the magnifying glass or anywhere in the yellow box to expand the exposure place details.

Enter in the date and time the case first arrived at this place. If unknown time, leave as zero.

**Alert!** The date fields are a date and time field. If you attempt to only enter the date an error message will display.

Always use the calendar icon to complete the date and time details to avoid error messages or data entry issues.

Click [[Close]] after date and time details entered.

Perform the same steps for the ending time.

Add any relevant details in the description field.

Click [[Save & Continue]] to save your edits.
