In this guide, we will be assembling a weather station If you have any questions, please call our support hotline at (866) 858-4651
1
The tools needed to assemble a weather station are: 1/2" wrench or deep socket 7/16" wrench or deep socket 5/16" wrench or socket 10mm wrench or deep socket 7/32" hex bit Cable ties
2
Start by setting up the tripod and placing the pole in but don't tighten it - leaving it loose will allow you to swivel the station around as you work on it
3
Remove the RTU, U-bolts, and 1/2" nuts from the packaging
4
Mount the RTU a couple inches above the collar of the tripod by placing the back of the RTU against the pole and install the U-bolts around the pole and through the mounting holes in the RTU and secure with the nuts
5
Remove the solar panel, solar panel bracket, bolts, 7/16" nuts, washers, and lock washers from the packaging
6
If the solar panel and hardware included in your package differs from what you see in the picture above, use this guide: [**Assembling the Alternative Mounting Bracket on a Solar Panel**](https://scribehow.com/shared/Assembling_the_Alternative_Mounting_Bracket_on_a_Solar_Panel__IHWMgRzcQ3iRkjV2ROoXLw) And then skip to step 9
7
Mount the solar panel bracket onto the solar panel by inserting the nuts upwards from between the back of the panel and the underside of the frame and then the bracket can sit on the frame with the bolt inserted through the mounting slot Secure with washer, lock washer, and nut
8
Make sure the bracket curves towards the front of the solar panel so it can mount onto the pole correctly
9
Remove the hose clamps from the packaging
10
Mount the solar panel to the pole on the opposite side of the RTU with the hose clamps slotted in the indents in the solar bracket to hold it in place
11
Connect the wire from the solar panel to the "PWR" port on the RTU
12
Remove the Davis weather station and it's hardware from the packaging
13
Twist the rain collection bucket counter-clockwise to remove it from the station Cut the cable-tie holding the tipping spoon in place for shipping
14
From the Davis hardware bag, remove a U-bolt, bracket, washers, lock washers, and 7/16" nuts
15
You can loosely install the U-bolt on the station to make it easier to mount
16
Slide the station on the pole from the top and leave roughly five inches of pole at the top to mount the anemometer later Tighten the nuts on the U-bolt evenly on both sides
17
Remove the anemometer, U-bolts, and 10mm nuts from the packaging
18
In this guide, I am using a sonic anemometer If the anemometer included in your package doesn't look like the picture above, use this guide: # [**Installing a Mechanical Anemometer on a Davis Weather Station**](https://scribehow.com/shared/Installing_a_Mechanical_Anemometer_on_a_Davis_Weather_Station__DZa9vv0ySy-M8gQQFBigQA) And then skip to step 27
19
If the wires at the base of the anemometer are disconnected, you can connect them now and push the wire up into the tube and seal it with the black plug
20
Make sure the black plug is inserted fully to create a good seal
21
Mount the anemometer on the pole above the station by placing the back of the anemometer base against the pole and install the U-bolts around the pole and through the mounting holes in the base and secure with the 10mm nuts
22
On the anemometer, there is a small embossed line on one side that needs to be pointed north when the station is installed The anemometer can be turned in the base by twisting it gently, careful not to the spin it too far around
23
On the front of the station, remove the cover of the control board by pulling the tab at the bottom towards you and sliding the cover upwards
24
Remove the foam plug in the bottom right and set it aside for now - we will want to put this back later
25
Insert the anemometer wire through the opening in the bottom right
26
Connect the wire to the "Wind" port at the bottom
27
Remove the Davis station cable (RTU-DAV-1000) from the packaging
28
Connect the end to the "STN" port on the RTU
29
Insert the other end through the opening on the control board panel and connect it to the black port at the top of the board
30
Reinsert the foam plug to seal the opening in the bottom right of the panel
31
Put the cover back on the control board panel
32
Remove the antenna, 2-sided adhesive pad, and cleaning wipe from the packaging
Note that one side of the antenna says "Face to Satellite" - this side needs to be face up when installed so don't use the adhesive pad on this side
Before using the adhesive pad, use the cleaning wipe to prep the surface and allow it to dry first
33
Peel the paper off one side of the adhesive pad and stick it to the antenna
34
Peel the paper off the other side of the adhesive pad and stick the antenna to the top of the RTU
35
Connect the antenna wires to the RTU Red goes to AN1 and AN2 - it does not matter which red wire goes to which AN port Blue goes to GPS
36
Using the 7/32" hex bit, unscrew the eight screws holding the RTU lid close
37
Remove the RTU lid
38
Place the battery in the empty compartment in the RTU
39
Connect the battery, making sure the other end with the green plug is also connected
40
Put the RTU lid back on and screw in the eight screws
41
Here's what the final assembled station will look like
42
