You can access Britannica with your students through Rapid Identity. We do not use NCWiseOwl any longer, so below are some steps for how you can use this tool to help your students navigate research and informational texts WITH supports for diverse learners.

Navigate to [https://nes.carteretcountyschools.org/](https://nes.carteretcountyschools.org/)

Click "Rapid Identity Portal"

Click Britannica-Staff. (Students will have a similar icon, but it should only give them access to elementary resources, whereas staff members can access all of elementary/middle/high.

Click "Elementary"

Click "SEARCH".

Type the topic you are interested in learning more about and hit [[enter]] (Example--"Rosa Parks")

Click "Rosa Parks (U.S. civil rights activist)"

You can click the down arrows to navigate to additional sections of the article.

ACCESSIBILITY FEATURE: Click "Read Aloud: Play/Stop".

Students can listen again, pause, or even listen in their native language.

Click "2" to increase the text complexity for students who need more of a challenge or would like additional information that the simpler article may not provide.

Click "Listen" to have the article read aloud to you, regardless of text complexity. This is great for our auditory learners or students who benefit from reading along while the text is read aloud to them.

Click "Images & Videos" to access primary sources related to the topic.

Click this image.

If your students are researching for a project or presentation, they can easily cite the source by clicking on the checkbox icon. The citation can be copied and pasted into their project, report, or presentation easily, and it shows them how to give credit to others for their work.

Click this dropdown to select MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.

After copying the citation, click "Done".

ACCESSIBILITY FEATURE (for multilingual learners): Click "Translate" for students to read the articles in their native language.

Click this dropdown.

Click "Hecho" when done.

You can change levels on text regardless of the language, as you see below. This text has three different reading levels, so if you have a student who reads in their native language, they can get the information in a language that is easiest for them while researching to help deepen their understanding.
