Canvas - Google Classroom-ish Assignments

Navigate to modules in one of your Canvas courses.

Click the + to add an assignment to a module.

Select "Assignment" next to Add, and Click "[ Create Assignment ]"

Type a name for the assignment.

Click "Add Item"

Click the Assignment on the modules page to open it.

Click "Edit"

Add total possible points to the Points field. Exmaple: 100 You can also change the assignment group here.

Click this dropdown next to Submission Type, and select "EXTERNAL TOOL."

Click "Find"

Scroll down.

Click "Google Assignments (LTI 1.3)"

Click "Continue"

Optional plagarism checker. Turn on if you like.

Click "Attach"

Select a document you would like each student to have their own copy. (double-click). IMPORTANT: You must be the owner of the attachment. Attaching a doc from a shared drive or a doc you are not the primary owner of will not work.

Click Google Assignments.

Click "Create" You do not ned to add points or a due date here. This will be in the regular assignment settings.

Click "Select"

Select a due date. You must do this for the grade to show up in the gradebook.

Click "Save & Publish"

STUDENT VIEW: Students open modules in their class and click on the assignment to open it.

STUDENT VIEW: Students then click on the grey box.

STUDENT VIEW: Students then click on the document to edit. They can also create or attach files. WHEN FINISHED, students will need to comebakc here and CLICK SUBMIT.

TEACHER VIEW: Once a student (any student) opens the assignment, you will be able to see ALL student documents in real time. One student just needs to open the assignment first. You will be able to see students progress. Simply click on a student name to open the Google Assignment viewer. (You may need to refresh if students' names aren't appearing).

Click "Instructional Technology"

TEACHER VIEW: Click the drop down at the top or the arrows to toggle through students' work.

Add grades and feedback.

You can click the comment button inside a Google Document to add comments directly on a student's work.

Once graded, you can click the return button, or click the drop-down next to return to return assignments to multiple students.

Click "Return"

If you would like to sync the grade to Skyward, open your Assignments page (click assignments on the left). Make sure you have the assignment in the correct grading category. The assignment group name must match the categories you have in your Skyward gradebook. Click "Grades"

Click "Sync"

Click "Sync to Gradepassback Service"

Select the correct assignment you would like to sync and click "Post Grades."
