Defining Essential Functions Instructions

• To start, select Expand All link to expand all essential functions for editing.

• Then, select the pencil icon to identify and describe 3 - 5 essential job responsibility of the position.

• Delete any unused functions by selecting the trash icon.

• You may click Save in the upper-right hand corner to leave the page and come back later.

• Once you are complete, click Submit in the upper right-hand corner. Once you have submitted the essential functions, the evaluation will open for editing.

Edit the Title (if needed), add a Description and a Measurement.  Once complete, click Update to save your work.  Repeat for a minimum of 3 Essential Functions.

Save, Submit, and Confirm to move the Evaluation to the next Manager Step.

Manager View: Complete Manager Evaluation

To move to the next step, Click Complete Manager Evaluation. 

Review the Manager Instructions. Click "Expand All"

Enter Performance Rating for each Essential Function and any Manager Comments. Any rating of Needs Improvement or below should always have a manager comment to support the rating.

Employee Name" conducts new employee orientation consistently and effectively.  She still has room for growth in identifying areas for improvement in efficiency while balancing with employee experience.  Suggestions for growth include researching orientation best practices via webinar or Skillsoft course and making suggestions for improvement.

Review each rating definition and select the one that best describes the employee performance for this item.
Click "Select Proficiency" to pull selected rating back to the Essential Function.

If the employee has no supervisory duties, enter Not Applicable in the Supervisor section.

5.   Superior

Enter Goals for the upcoming year. Use the SMART method. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-based.

Goals for the upcoming year are: 1) Implement Orientation measurement survey and distribute within 1 week of orientation attendance.  2) etc.
