    Type the subject code (subject prefix) in the "Subject" field.

    Type the 4-digit course number in "Course Number" field.

    The section title should never be updated in SSASECT.

    Supplemental titles for sections such as Independent Study, Directed Reading, Topics, Research, Dissertation, or Thesis should **only** be updated in the long title field on the SSASYLB form.     The section title will automatically populate the "Title" field.

    If a section number has already been created using the number you enter, you will receive an error. Use the look up button (...) to view which sections have already been created for this course.

    Type the 3-digit section number in the "Section" field. - Section numbers must be 3 digits in length. Use leading 0’s if necessary (i.e. 001, 002, 010, etc.). - Classes with specific honors sections should use the below section numbers: - 294-299 – honor sections - Departments are encouraged to use 600-699 section numbers for online classes.

    Leave the "Cross List" field blank. The Registrar's Office enters all cross listed sections. If you wish to cross list this section, please notify[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). In the email, include the CRN of the section and all CRNs for the sections that need to be cross listed.

    The Campus code identifies whether the class section is delivered on ECU's campus or via Distance Education and corresponds to the term code for the section. The matrix below outlines the valid combinations of campus code and terms used by departments. There are several campus codes that are for special use only and should not be used by the departments when setting up sections unless instructed.     Type the campus code in the "Campus" field.

    Type "A" for Active in the "Status" field.

    I (Inactive) and R (Reserved) should never be selected as the status type.  These are internal codes used only by the Office of the Registrar.

    The schedule type, determined by the university curriculum process, is set at the catalog level and defaults to the available options for a given section. - If multiple options are available, select the one that best matches the section being taught. - Undergraduate upper division and graduate sections being taught on an ad-hoc basis as independent study should be coded with schedule type code 16 (individual study).     Click the search button (...) on the "Schedule Type" field to add the appropriate Schedule Type code.

    Select the Schedule Type code and click the "OK" button.

    The Instructional Method field is automatically populated with 01 (Face to Face). You **MUST verify or update** the instructional method for each section.

    Campus and instruction method are closely linked, meaning specific campus codes are only compatible with certain instruction method codes. - Both the campus and instruction method impact state funding and must be accurately assigned. - The instruction method reflects the modality of instruction (e.g., online, hybrid, face-to-face). - ECU has a special Instruction Method code (07) for face to face instruction taking place off ECU's campus at a remote site.
