Create and Manage Posts

Use this Scribe to help guide you when you need to create a new post or manage existing posts.

Add a New Post

Go to <https://pugwashestuary.com/wp-admin> and sign in.

This will redirect you to your WordPress dashboard.

Click the image below "New Post:" OR hover over "Posts" in the left side menu and click "Add New Post".

Click on the "Add Title" field and type in the title of your post.

Click "Type / to choose a block" and add in your post content. WordPress has different options for blocks - click on the Plus icon to the right of the field to see more options (such as a list, an image, and more).

Tip: You can copy and paste directly from a text document if you like. You may have to check the formatting when doing so.

Once you are done entering the post content, click "Post".

Click "Set featured image". This image will be the one that displays on the posts listings as well as at the top of the individual post itself.

You can either select an image that has already been uploaded to the site or upload a new one. To upload a new image: click "Upload files" right below "Featured image", then "Select files". Select the image from your computer and click "Open". The image will upload. To select a an existing image or select one that you have just uploaded, click on the image (a blue checkmark will display), and click "Set featured image" in the bottom right corner.

You should now see the image you selected in the featured image box.

You can adjust the date and time for the post. Click "Immediately" next to "Publish" and select a date and time from the popup.

Tip: You can leave the post to publish immediately if desired, but you can also set the date to display at a date from the past or a date in the future. If you set a date in the future, the post will not publish on the site until the set date and time.

Scroll down on the right side menu to the "Categories" section. Choose one of the existing categories or click "Add New Category" to add a new one.

When adding a new category, click the "New Category Name" field and type in the name of a category (using title capitalization) and then type Enter/Return to add the category. You should now see the new category you created selected with a blue check mark.

If you are not ready to make the post live on the site, you can save it as a draft. Click "Save Draft" and the post will be saved, but not published live on the site.

When you are ready to publish the post, click "Publish".

Click "Publish" again.

Your post will now be published and display on the front end of the webiste.

Edit a Post

Click "Posts" in the left side menu.

Click on the title of the post you wish to edit.

Edit the post as desired in the same way you would when creating a new post.

To save your changes, click "Save".

If you would like to change the post to Draft (unpublish it from the live site, but keep the post in the dashboard), click "Published" next to "Status".

Click the "Draft" radio button.

Click "Save" to change the post to draft.

Quick Edit

Tip: Quick edit is a great way to make quick changes to basic attributes of a post without having to open the post editing screen.

In the posts listing, hover over the post you wish to edit and click "Quick Edit".

Edit any of the information in the quick edit box.

Click "Update" to save your changes or "Cancel" to discard them.

Delete a Post

In the posts listing page, hover over the post you wish to delete and click "Trash".

The post will be moved to the Trash.

Recover a Deleted Post

In the posts listing page, click "Trash".

Hover over the post you wish to restore and click "Restore".

Return to the active posts by clicking "All".

You will see the post you recovered here - it will be automatically listed as a Draft until you re-publish it.
